I mean after all, what do "those" people know? They've all spent way too much time hanging on the Earth upside down, and that has got to mess your brain up something awful...

I guess that makes it even more ironic that such a person started the most popular thread on this forum...

Yeah, I thought Simon was poking fun more than actually being serious. After all they are the big island with a bunch of convicts! They shouldn't question us about crime ;)-

Right! How much credence should we give to people whose ancestors referred to "being exiled to the crappiest place we can think of, with Christmas in the friggin' summer, inhabited by the extremely nastiest critters on the entire planet, as "transportation"?
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

The thread had gone completely off topic and started wading into political territory.

The final 2 posts had gone past casual jokes.

People tend to freak out more when I delete posts. so I err on the side of closing.

The problem, as I see it so go ahead & disregard, is that it seems like too many threads go way OT, and not in a good way. Most forums the mods delete posts and do temporary/permanent bans as a way to keep control of the more "opinionated" members. A short time back there was an attempt to get these topics moved into a more appropriate area, but that seems to have gone to the wayside.

Regardless, deleting the entire thread seems ok to me as there really isn't anything useful in them.

And really, do you guys talk this way face to face? If you do you must have a huge dental bill.

Something interesting about those nasty critters and venomous snakes they have, In New Zealand they have no snakes and pretty much no nasty critters due to the same type of isolation that created the animals on Australia.

Here's an idea, have another area of remote central that becomes a wastebasket for all threads that spiral to political arguments and name-calling.

Call it: "Wesley's Corner" or "Den of A-holes." This can serve as a reference archive of the best arguments using 1's and 0's.

Actually.

The only post that had ANY political leaning, was the second to last post by KOT, and he apparently didn't get that simoneales had posted something poking fun.

So, there was the "Thunder Down Under" with his funny post, then BP in his delirium saying you were doing a good job, KOT apparently taking things too seriously. and then you posting why you had to close a thread.

Unfortunately you didn't give it a chance to "spin out of control", rather you assumed it would, so you locked it down.

One person makes a political statement, it's not the end of the world.

So, you can now lock this damn thread down, or delete it in its entirety, and we'll all just go about being "techy without humor", kinda like engineers in cubicles.

Well I lost interest when the "vote on OT threads" and no real vote mechanism, or survey.... What was the point? It just became......another OT thread!
I don't have any problem with OT threads, but more of an issue when someone asked a question, or posts a link to a relevant topic, then all of a sudden the thread goes off in a totally unrelated direction and is dominated by two or three guys turning it into their personal venting room. Meanwhile, when we search for a thread that might have something useful, we have to sift through all this off topic (within a real thread) crap.
If I have a question, say, about LED lighting control, I don't want to have to sift through 8 pages of replies about gun control, right vs left, two guys having a pissing match, old hooker stories or tales from the past.
Just get to the point or move on and start a new OT thread AWAY from anything useful.

Not that it matters but...there really isn't a "bottom" or "underside" of the earth. We are just kind of floating around out there.
