I prefer something that is active.

Niles still offers them but they are passive....which might be OK, but I'm replacing 4 pairs of actives that were damaged in a storm. I think they were Elan but of course Elan no longer offers much that isn't Elan G related.

I have only ever used passive component baluns over the years and have never had any issues up to 300'

Pretty sure Snap still offers them as well.

Yeah...I don't think active is really necessary. I put a pair of Niles surface mount in temporarily to trouble shoot and they worked fine. Runs are all less than 100'

The Snaps will work fine, assuming they are built well?

How far does the signal travel? You might be able to use a SE Labs distribution amplifier with wall plates.

I've used a few passive over 250' without any issue.

Why not upgrade to HDMI over Coax, since they are powered on both transceiver ends.

@FP Crazy

Let me know if these will work in your application. I have them in stock and they are active.

AA makes good stuff.

Used their drive-up teller system a few months back, what a lifesaver.

I've soldered on rca's to cat5 in a pinch for runs that long without any issues!
I'd still recommend a balun to ease troubleshooting and eliminate the clusterf***
appearance!

passive readily available. have NEVER had an issue with these. if only HDMI worked as well. (although I must admit, havent had any hdmi issues in a VERY long time since moving to HDBaseT)

If and when these adaptors get rare, you might be able to use three high-quality CCTV "baluns" to do what's needed. That doesn't address the Decora aspect of things, just the electronics, of course.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

John, I think I've got some Elan component receivers that went with their matrix. The matrix had cat outs, like the Hd6. Those work, or you need both ends?

And I assume that's when they were cheaper than other options. Now that they cost the same as others, ... Well, just sayin
