My wife and kids are at her parents for the week. A couple of my kids prescriptions need to be refilled. One of my son's seizure medications is a narcotic. (It's actually a benzo). Her parents house is about 2.5 to 2.75 hours away. I'm thinking FedEx may be cheaper and easier than driving 5 hours round trip. Anyone know if I would have a problem shipping a prescription drug? I can't risk it getting flagged and not be delivered.

If it's in the same country and it has a scrip label on the tube, you will be fine. I don't think there is any regulations against shipping meds, unlike things that are combustible or illegal.

Why not have your dr. Call in the prescription to local pharmacy where they're at?

Just mail them their medicine. People are doing worse, it's their name on the bottle.
The cop that arrests a dad for mailing his son seizure medicine is getting crucified by the media.

If you ship, pack the pills so that they don't rattle.
Overall, I don't think that it will be an issue. I imagine that crossing state lines could be messy if there is a flag.
Dr. issuing a new script is easy (could be faxed to a nearby pharmacy) unless a state boundary is crossed. Another option is to get a refill if the script is registered at a national chain (again be wary of crossing state boundaries). But, there could be insurance payment issues if the script is not due for refill for a while.

A couple scripts were already called in for refills last week, but I forgot to pick them up before I went to my in laws. Because of their narcotic classification, getting them transferred takes paperwork and a few days. 2. One is a new prescription and that is an option, but regarding further refills, it would be easier to start with our regular pharmacy. 3. Multiple doctors are involved (especially between all 3 kids). My son just spent 13 Days at Duke for an EEG. We got more doctors added to his team

Wtf. Why would you/ she leave home without something so important? And its only a 2 1/2 hour round trip for each of you. Is the wife not half at fault?

Typically you can just put it in balloons and swallow it.

That's still 5 hours worth of gas. It was just a thought that if I could put it in a FedEx box and send it next day, it might be cheaper than the gas. Also, I've made the drive 4 weekends out of the last 5 weeks. I just didn't really want to make it again. But she decided today she needed more stuff from home, so shipping is out any way

Got this results in a quick google search, I knew the USPS would have the skinny on this. [Link: pe.usps.gov]
