Install a celling or two fans through out the house will help a lot with air flow. They cost a few pennies a day to run.

I have trane and dont use third party. never have the need to change it. house is spray foamed. its stays on 72 and rarely ever gets changed or needs changed. The trane stat has lots of info: humidity, outside temp, filter condition, etc. so the installer is likely correct. Im not aware of a third party therm that can read ALL the info trane wants to communicate.

Regardless, Trane Comfortlink II has ZERO ways to control third party. period. been down that road for three years and have NEVER found ANYONE thats EVER been able to control it. Trane proprietary crap. Doesnt matter. I never change the temp anyway.

What control system are you using. I am beta testing a C4 driver for the trance thermostats right now.
I love supporting product that supports me!

First of all, the Trane thermostat is not made by Trane, but by Nexia, so it also is a "third party" thermostat. Thermostats are made by companies that build controls not HVAC systems.

I just had twin 3.5 ton Trane systems installed as replacements for 18 year old Trane systems that were still working but getting long in the tooth re maintenance. The installer, after much discussion with me convinced me to go with the Trane thermostats. As long as we are talking thermostats and not the Trane high end multi-zone control system I can add some knowledge.

The thermostats I have are model TCONT624AS42DA. These are Z-Wave units that should run with any decent Z-Wave controller. My Home is all Insteon except for the Thermostats which are Z-Wave and all are controlled by a UDI ISY994, which in turn communicates with the in-wall iPads and my iPhone. I did all the programming for the iPads and iPhone.

The thermostats do not need the Nexia bridge, nor do they need to deal with the Nexia cloud. They use standard Z-Wave protocol as defined for thermostats. I have temperature sensing in every room and and I will get a one degree variation between rooms. The home is single level concrete block with full interior framing inside the concrete block and extensive insulation in the walls and attic. I keep the cooling setpoint at 77 degrees and run the fan on auto, not continuous. I have no formal de-humidification systems, but the thermostats can control de-humidification and do sense humidity. My house runs between 48% and 50% RH, so I did not believe I needed it. The thermostats advise filter changes based on elapsed time not flow blockage. They can handle two stage systems with single or double compressors. My systems are two stage cooling/heating and Gas heat with variable speed blowers.

I am completely satisfied with the new systems. The house is on the East Cost of FL 50 miles below Daytona, on an island in the middle of the Inter-coastal waterway. It does get a little hot here and humidity does run a tad high.

I am getting my HVAC system in my house replaced. I'm doing a Trane 2 stage heat and 2 stage AC. My HVAC guy, who I have been using for years, explained that the Trane Tstat is more intelligent than the Honeywell, Lutron, or Radio Tstat. He said I will get better efficiency by utilizing the Trane Comfort home system which is in my furnace and AC? Is this true? Trying to figure out if I should go with the Trane, Lutron or Radio Tstat.

Ask him who makes that Trane thermostat.
My mechanic told me, "I couldn't repair your brakes, so I made your horn louder."

I had the Trane 2 stage system installed in my two story home with finished basement last December. We are in downstate Illinois...get all 4 seasons here. I opted for the XL824 thermostat. I love it...with one exception. I have to reprogram the stat during the fall and spring when we use AC one day and furnace the next. Not a big deal...but it is a nuisance. It may be a user error and I have not had the ambition to contact their tech support. The XL824 stat has a "CIRCULATE" feature which runs the fan at low speeds for around 30 minutes per hour. It's very effective in keeping the house at an even temperature. (Basement still gets cool, though.) You also have the option for AUTO and FAN.
The app is rock solid.
Local temp, forecast, and radar on the screen of the stat. I use the local temp feature a lot. Used the forecast and radar feature for about a week. Stat also controls our humidifier.

Your tsat is set at 66? Does it ever shut off? Outside temp must be what, 70 maybe? That setting wont cut it here in FL.

No it's only because the apt in temporarily in has such uneven temps. Window ac they have stuffed in wall. Bedroom is always hot. Must make living room an icebox to get bedroom a decent temp. Moving out in a month yay. At my last house I left the central air on 70. This is in ny

That's a GREAT idea. It uses less power than running the fan on full all the time but it would keep hot or cold air from pooling. The basement walls and floor are probably their own cooling influence so it makes sense that it might still get cool despite constant air motion.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.
