Is it possible for me to get discrete IR codes for preset stations on Yamaha R-N301 network stereo receiver. So far nothing in RTI ID works. Nothing on website. Please tell me it's possible. Client does not have iOs device to use app.

I just looked on the Yamaha Ci site and the only extra codes it shows (that are not already on the OEM remote), is discreet power on & off. No radio preset numbers are listed as possible codes.
Another note so it doesn't bite you, like it did me: The line-output on the back (REC), does NOT output sound from the streaming services. Yamaha tech support confirmed this to be intentional. I have no clue why they would do something as stupid as that but they did. So you can't run a signal to another audio system from this or external amp. At least not without using a speaker level to line level converter :(

You also can't make a recording of the stream, which might be why there's no analog output. It's pretty dumb that you cannot use zone 2 output with these services, but copyright protection technology does not put the customer first. (Did you know that a DirecTV DVR won't record any of the music channels?)

And yet SONOS and Denon HEOS both have analog & digital audio outputs to do this very thing. As well as PCs, MACs, and many other CE devices (AppleTV, Roku, Western Digital, etc.) So it shouldn't have anything to do with copyright protection.

Yamaha is very conservative. The early MusicCast systems had no practical means of backing up the library. Yamaha was afraid that someone would accuse them of facilitating piracy if the library could be copied -- for any reason. Eventually, there was a procedure for updating the drive to a larger size, but it was contorted.
There is also a tradition (not just Yamaha) of not providing a DAC path from digital inputs to analog outputs. I was never sure if this was an attempt to be cheap or a concern about piracy.

To be cheap. Because I can clearly remember a time when DACs to convert digital inputs to analog audio (for zone 2 or tape outputs) was common in A/V receivers (of all prices). I can remember the 1st time I ran into one that didn't and was like "WTF!". Within a few years of that, no analog conversion could be found anymore - except for in some of the top model units.
I can also clearly remember being at a Denon CI training many years ago and asking why all the analog inputs were disappearing off the Denon receivers at the time (AND the DAC question). [trainer wasn't Matt or Jeff at this one]. The response I got was "Because many CI aren't using or needing them anymore, so it saves cost for things they don't use". My immediate response was "show of hands who uses/needs these features". I do believe every hand was raised in that room. To which I looked back at the trainer and in my best 'House' impersonation said "Someone is an idiot".

You've gotta be kidding me Yamaha! I convinced this low tech customer to go with an in wall touchscreen so she could have preset buttons for radio. Now it looks like I have to go back to Denon or throw in a tuner for this receiver.
Brad, do you have a link for the CI site?

av.yamahaconnect.com But you have to get approved just like the Denon CI website.
The Yamaha R-N301 really shines with its app. That is what this thing was made for. In the app, you can see preset stations and scroll them. As well as direct channel entry. You can get a ASUS MeMO 7" android tablet on amazon for $99 to go with the receiver, if the customer has none. Charge for the tablet and to set it up for her. Find what she likes and load it up with some other great apps as well. She will be tickled pink. Value added service!
Also note: The R-N301 has a wired network connection. If you don't have that available at the receiver location, you will need to get a wireless adaptor. Also: I have had trouble with the R-N301 not being recognized by the app at 1st. Had to close the app and try again.

mrtristan,
Which keypad are you using? Can it issue IP commands?
I haven't worked with the R-N301, but you should try some of the Extended IR commands from other units.

buzz has a good point, Although there are no IR commands to do what you want, there are IP commands to do it because the app can do it. But since there is no published IP protocol for this receiver, you would have to figure it out yourself. That is well above my IT level, I would never be able to figure it out but you might be able to.
