Anyone know of a cost effective simple backup? Only needs to prevent settop boxes from rebooting because power blinks. So long term high capacity is not a concern. Fancy features, network connection is not either. Most importantly, no bells, whistles or alarms would be fantastic. Do not need an alarm in the middle of the night because power flickered. Common in Florida. If you have seen this suspect please report back. Thanks

I have used Minuteman EN-400 for these and have never had a problem. I watched an electrician change the weatherhead on a service entrance at a bar/restaurant via the security cameras and that took over 1/2 hour. There was no interruption in the DVR's operation, in any way. In another house, the client was working on their computer during a thunderstorm and at one point, the lights flickered a few times and then, everything went dead. Except the computer. He had been composing a document and according to his wife, he saved the document and said "Well, that just paid for itself".

All in one location, living room. I will look at your recommendation. Thanks. Will not work. Has audible alarm. Customer wants no alarms of any sort.

A UPS system, with the alarms turned off, and no connectivity to the network for reporting state of health, is just a failure waiting to happen. A UPS has a battery. The batteries in these devices are good for about 3 to 5 years.
A UPS with no network connectivity, and the alarms turned off is just replacing an easy to understand issue, with a hard to diagnose issue. Without some sort of network connectivity, you need an audible alarm to tell you the device will no longer serve it's intended purpose.

Thanks for your concern. For some people the constant alarms in the middle of the night would cause as much frustration as how long it takes devices to reboot. Not sure where you are located, but here the power will go off for what seems like milliseconds. Alarm would not be a problem when awake and using equipment. Its the rest of the night.

Most of the midrange units have different alarm settings. Usually from the front panel, you just turn on/off all alarms. In software on some units, you can seperate alarms for loss of power, from alarms for battery end of life. You want the battery end of life alarm on.

We once had a 10,000 square foot retail and corporate office area stunk up by UPS batteries that had gone bad with no warning. Corporate phone system. Twenty-eight phone lines. Not fun. End of life alarm is REALLY a good idea!

Agreed, end of life alarm makes sense. I am fully aware of full function back ups. This calls for simple, no software(cheap) no frills. Never used one or looked for one. Still have a few weeks. You ever dealt with a customer that wants all lights blacked out? No remote base lights on kind of guy. Modem lights blacked out.
