I ahve a client who is looking to do a theater with Atmos, but they want all of the speakers in wall. The only Atmos system I have done was with free standing Golden Ear Speakers, and it sounded amazing. The thing that concerns me is having my front three behind a screen, and they would be the Sonance LCR2's. The front wide left and rights would need to be in-walls, which would probably be LCR's. I don't think I will be able to get the front wides to be on the appropriate 50-70 depress off the primary listening area, since they will be in the side wall. Any ideas? We use Sonance, and I would like to use them all around. I just can't get enough angle out of them. Any tried to use in-ceilings as their front wides?

Why not use their angled in-ceiling LCR's?

There are no wides in an Atmos configuration. Atmos uses the traditional 5.1 or 7.1 layout with 2 or 4 top speakers.

This was my question.

Seriously what's the problem. Do a standard 5-1 or 7.1 with I walls and throw 2 or 4 ceiling speakers in. Problem solved.

Wouldnt the problem be the customer "wants all in walls"?

not at all... you use in wals for the 5.1 or 7.1 then throw in 2 or 4 in ceilings for the atmos...

this is adressed in the link i posted.

Mount 7 channels at seated ear height, mount 4 in walls up high and fire adjustable tweeters at ceiling... My off-the-cuff thought.

Tuck is eluding to the fact the OP said the client wants in-wall only speakers (i.e. no in-ceiling).

seems pretty clear that without in-ceiling or up-firing speakers you will not get an effective Atmos setup.

The pdf on the site referenced by ceid is a good read.

with the prohibition of in-ceiling and the desire to stay all sonance (no upfiring atmos spkrs) consider doing a 9.1 setup instead.

Well then I guess he won't be getting atmos then. He either has to use floor standing speakers or in ceilings.

Yup. Sounds like he has heard of Atmos but doesn't know what exactly it is.

The guys are right in that you'll have to go in-ceiling in order to take advantage of the Dolby Atmos surround upgrade. Model options range from the diffuse-radiating Visual Performance VP62R SST/SUR up to the Cinema SUR1S.

Looking at Atmos 9.2

[Link: dolby.com]

I can do my front in-ceilings height, but the front wides must be in-wall. With the Sonance angled LCR in-walls, I won't get appropriate angle to the listening area. The room is 22x42', so it's a large room.

My concern was doing the wide speakers in-wall. On my previous 9.2 Dolby Atmos setup, I used Goldenear speakers on stands, so the angle was not the problem.
