I had a client tell me yesterday that he bought one and it's the greatest thing ever. But he's a bit of a band wagon jumper. Anyone have experience with one?

I built this 'tech showcase table' for my last project. Pretty cool - 60" square edge blended rear projection touch table. The first content package was 'Internet of things - health and fitness"...

Apple watch was one of the features. I was able to play around with one for a couple of hours and I have to say it was quite impressive. I own a Samsung gear S and it doesn't really do much. The app library available is full of low quality BS things like fancy watch faces and poorly thought out navigation that you have to initiate from the watch. The apple watch is the opposite - a very structured set of ui concepts and a requirement to tie into an app on the device itself. I'm really excited about the possibilities for driving proximity aware automation. Crestron has an app out. Lutron has an app out. Insteon has an app out. All are in the early stages, but it's definitely going to be another game changer.

Wait until Watch OS 2 comes out. The current OS relies heavily on the iPhone being present. OS 2 is going to allow the app to be natively on the watch. So load times will be smoother and faster for 3rd party apps. You'll still need the iPhone though, but apparently not most of the time like you do now.

People like to rag on Apple for their products as trendy, overpriced crap but "iPod" and "iPad" are ubiquitous terms for music player (Walkman, anyone) and tablet.

I don't see anyone ever calling a generic tablet computer a "Surface".

I think the watch will be part of our lives for many years to come. Certainly more than Google Glass or MS Hololens.

I own 4 watches. I have worn each twice in 40 years. I have zero interest in an apple watch.

Will never take off. Watch people like to have something unique. I give it two years of minimal adoption before they abandon it. People are sick of being robots and the connected device fatigue is coming. People are already making fun or wearers on social media. Apple devices have always had the "want to be seen with" moniker and if it takes the opposite spin it will never go. I see this launch as Apple jumping the shark.

I have had mine for about a month now. Honestly, I love it. There are definitely areas that can be approved on. I am sure the second generation will be much better, but I also think a lot of improvements will come with Watch OS 2 this fall. Mostly, it has encouraged me to work out more. I have been working my butt off to meet the daily goals since I got it. Not an easy task if you do things right.

When they first announced it, I assumed it would have a big presence in home automation. I am not so sure about that now. I have the Lutron app connected to my RadioRa2 system. I think I have used it about twice. And that was just me playing around with it. Some things are just better done on a phone or tablet. Maybe I will use it more if they make the app run native on the phone, so it doesn't take so long to load.

I dont think anyone is arguing the success of Apple and the ipod, iphone, or ipad. However that doesnt give them cart blanche to create anything connected and guarantee its success. Lets make an iHeadband or iShoes or iUnderwear. Apple seems to be going the "if it was done in Star Trek" lets make it route.

Some distant iteration of the watch may succeed but it will be a far cry from anything that resembles a traditional watch. Maybe a thin band with a flip up hologram screen. Until then....

I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss Microsoft. They understand exactly where they stand today and where they need to be positioned to be relevant in the future. Products like Surface Hub and Hololens are truly disruptive products for the workplace. SMART boards are dead as soon as Surface Hub starts shipping later this year due to the market domination of MS Office. Hololens is the first real innovation in VR computing that I've seen in a long time by natively integrating with the OS. Both are core components of Windows 10...

Exciting times ahead.

An apostrophe is not a substitution for a diacritical mark. Should read José.

I've played with one as part of work, using it for several days, along with an iPhone. I have worn a watch for years. I feel lost without one. I rely on my phone for meeting notice, and often will connect to meetings while driving into or home from work. I would consider myself a prime target customer.

I have used other watch / watchlike devices. Fitbit HR, Basis Peak, and Moto 360, among others.

The watch itself... is ok. I'm not very impressed. I think it is way too big and bulky for my taste. The notifications for meetings seem OK, but don't seem any noticeably better than AndroidWear.

The real problem with both AndroidWear and Apple Watch is that both really require a phone to truly have much worth. Separate them from the phone, and they become a watch without connectivity. Both Apple and Google are promising this will change in future devices.

The AndroidWear devices and Apple Watch have real promise in the future as helpful fitness devices, but they both presently fall pretty short. You can't get realtime heart rate updates on the Apple Watch right now, and the heartrate it does give, just doesn't seem that accurate. It's certainly nowhere in the same league as a fitbit HR for exercise tracking.

Right now, I see the Smart Watch market as a race of pigs. None of the choices are truly that attractive. They all do certain things pretty well, and suck at others. After having used a variety, I think someone will get it right at some point, but I think we're several years out before that happens. I would like a device with the looks of the Moto 360, but much slimmer, with the fitness capabilities of a Fitbit HR. The app development needs to get much better as well. The Apple Watch is also a bit finicky to connect for charging, I much prefer the wireless charging stand of the Moto 360.

I think we'll see a new version of Apple Watch, long before the experience with the first gen becomes compelling enough for me to want to forego my TAG Heuer on a daily basis. I somewhat doubt we'll ever see the adoption rates for Smart Watches that approach what Smartphones have done.

I think for a smartwatch maker to make this a success, will take someone who knows how to build a great looking high quality functional watch that isn't hugely larger than a standard watch, and putting first rate technology in the watch that supports notifications and the full gamut of fitness needs, and is supported with good apps that don't require a phone. I think for the next several years we're going to see some nice base hits... but I don't think anyone will hit a home run.

It is a great way to keep on top of email, texts, notifications, create appointments, reminders, check weather, time, get directions and track physical activity. And to dismiss calls when you're involved in other tasks. = it's quicker access to your digital life, just like a touchscreen vs an ipad for home control.

If you find yourself constantly pulling out your phone for those types of things, you'll like it. If you find you miss hearing the text, calendar alerts, etc, you'll like it.
Technology is cheap, Time is expensive.

We are addicted to technology. Everywhere you go, people are looking down stoop-shouldered at their damn phones. I go out to a bar or restaraunt, and see couples both staring at their phones, instead of interracting with one another.

If my date were on her phone like that, I'd kick her to the curb. Just sayin'
