If the "av guy" or anyone is doing something you know or even think is unsafe always let the GC (construction site) or homeowner (finished house) know.
We once encountered a nice looking floor to ceiling, free standing cabinet. It was 3/4" MDF. We were mounting a 65" TV on an articulating arm. One's first impression was a few lags and done, but I've encountered too many cabinet makers with no sense of structural integrity. On inspection, it was a removable panel held on with a few clips -- one sharp pull and the panel would dismount.
Fortunately, the cabinet was built around a steel column. We built up a sandwich of timbers that clamped the mount and cabinet face to the column. At that point the cabinet face was mostly ornamental.
