How long before someone puts a hole in a piece of Sheetrock that only has studs at the edges? Scary part, there's a kid in the house.

You have to respect that guy for taking the abuse from that forum so well. He even took their advice and thanked them. Hopefully he gets it fixed and ends up with a pretty cool project (and a new respect for learning the right way to do construction) under his belt.

Check out his other projects. http://mindeclipse.imgur.com

I didn't care to look at the pipes, but the video game looked pretty good. As if it wasn't the same person who built the glued wall.

I found this beautiful gem in the comments further down:

I'm pretty sure the wall has studs, but they may not be in the usual orientation. I saw a wavy row of holes, which tells me the studs may be crap wood from HD, they may have used furring strips or random spacing. If the paint stays on the drywall and the glue doesn't fail, the large footprint of the frame and if the weight isn't excessive, it shouldn't fall off. If they had used drywall anchors, they wouldn't need the glue and it would support more weight, especially WRT shear.

I guess someone will need to watch this- if it suddenly disappears from the Web, it may be because it fell off.

"The ONE thing I would do differently is to use MDF board instead of drywall for a wall with rounded corners. Trying to edge the rounded drywall corners turned out less than perfect. If you're making a square wall, I think you could get by just fine with drywall."

Just as well he didn't try this.... Gluing a 3/8" sheet of MDF onto drywall without backing studs. Yikes.

We have to admit. The smart thing he did was to get the OK from the boss(wife) for the viewing height.

I'm just perplexed why he didn't use a stud finder??? Why drill 100 pilot holes??? You could easily do the "knock" test if you didn't have a stud finder....

I've seen horizontal furring strips used on basement walls. A horizontal row of probe nails is not likely to intersect horizontal strips.

In any case I don't recommend sitting near that glued TV wall until the wall is properly anchored.
