After a good few years run with very minimal issues these past couple weeks have been brutal for my service side...Seems like im having the most issues with the NR1605 and 5009 models installed around November/December 2014. Ive had 5 service related issues as of today. Every single one of them has been due to the HDMI blinking/going out. the first couple I was able to fix by going to a NON HDbaseT extender (simple dumb extender) a 5009 last week I though was fixed by a Firmware upgrade is failing now, those jobs have active cables in it. And finally I got a call this morning from a client with a 5009 doing the same thing, This job is just a 12ft Ethereal MHY non active cable

WTH!!!!

Is it dropping video on all sources, or just cable/satellite receiver?  If it's just cable or sat receiver, maybe a firmware update by the provider has triggered the issue?

I've run into an issue with Marantz using active cables and was able to solve with an HDMI splitter between AVR and Display (clock stretch).

I have a 1605 in my den on a 6'cable and have had no issues - been there since last spring.
i did a couple 5009's last month to projectors with 35' active cables with no problems as well.

see if the drop happens on the internal menu or just on connected sources?

a few years ago i got a bad batch on denons that about killed me.

Contact Ethereal about this problem...They may have some useful information regarding a bad run of HDMI boards in D&M products (among others). No idea if your models/production run is affected but it's worth considering.

No Problems on the 1605s I have out there.
I don't do the 5009, just the 6009 and above. no issues so far. No active cables either on these jobs.
I may be schizophrenic, but at least I have each other.

and we do....
As many know we were a large part in finding the software issue on the chip-sets that are used in these units. Not knowing (at first) if there was a software resolution we created a hardware fix which is installed at the source side (in this case the AVR). We have found that this hardware solution also resolves a number of other active cable issues and have put it into production (although I am still trying to come up with a cool part name).

Drop me an email and I will send you out one of my handmade prototypes.

We've had issues with 1605's - have one in our shop right now. I kid you not the thing randomly vibrates - I actually got it on video.

It had similar issues as you are having - and more. OSD would be warped and some information would get cut off or not display. For example - signal routing menu screen, bottom right corner would be a rounded edge with 20% missing.

Pulled that thing out and replaced with an Yamaha Aventage of same cost value, still need to send the Marantz in (under warranty).

I ordered a Yamaha RX-A840 today to test.... I already know im going to be disappointed by it. Wondering How it integrates with C4 and the ease of setup (in the past their menus have made me want to punch babies and punt kittens)...

My other Disty is willing to let me borrow a few Sony ES AVRs to test too.

Anymore I just dont give a shit about SQ in the $1500 and below range. I need Ease of setup, integration and reliability. I like Sonys ES line and installer features but I just feel weird about sticking a "sony" AVR on my proposals....Brings back bad memories

I love marantz but these issues are killing me :(

Aventage's have been extremely reliable for us, and the C4 IP driver works wonderfully. My only complaint is that you have to use the remote and have a display for setup menus. Aventage menus are much better than the older standard Yamaha menus.

no computer setup? (going to the IP address?)

I have been doing that with marantz lately, huge time saver!
