Looking for a new part to carry for use with Sonos Playbar.

4x1 or 4x2 HDMI switch
Optical out for playbar
Discretes or 232 for control.

Had been using the Octava products but other prices have come down and want something from easy distro.

What are you using?

Why do you need an optical out of the switch? Sources in to switch, Hdmi out to TV, digital out of TV to playbar.

Not always a good option.
Samsung for example does not pass Dolby Digital thru the HDMI inputs.
Amazon is your best option
Reputable companies (like us) can not be price competitive with Amazon due to the Dolby license requirement.

I've used the Vanco 4x1 HDMI switch with to slink out...works well, no delay and has discrete IR codes

I have used that piece twice. In both installations, the client has to regularly power cycle the switcher to regain a video and/or audio signal. On one of the systems, I was able to configure the switcher to power on and off with the preamp/processor, so it gets power cycled automatically. But he still has to occasionally use the conveniently located power switch on the front of the unit to turn it off and back on (that switch is too convenient....I am guessing it is by design...they expected it to be used often I think).

Both installs use Sony projectors as the sink. Maybe there is some incompatibility there. How many have you used and have you had these issues?

Atlona makes a couple units with a SPDIF out, just need to convert the signal to Toslink. Atlona pricing is pretty reasonable for the most part and they have discrete IR as well as 232 to control them

Keydigital also has a 4x1 (KD-HD4x1ProK). We don't use KD but I have in the past and haven't really had any problems with previous products from them

Yeah, that KD part looks pretty good. Might try but it is at same price point as Octava
I sometimes love Ethereal stuff, but don't they just make 1 HDMI switch and doesn't it lack optical out?
Had the same problem with Vanco.
Ironically, didn't with a monoprice.
Sounds like on to Altona!

DVDO would be another option for switching with toslink output.

If you do this you have to be careful and turn off a bunch of the TV's processing or you'll wind up with a lipsync problem

Both in sony/LG installations working flawless (as far as i know). Not with a Projector...Most of my HDMI issues now stem from projectors. I feel like PJs just dont get the same type of attention the TVs do.

Just drop an HDMI audio extractor in before the display and take optical out of that
