I'm surprised someone doesn't use solid surface counter material for the base. Sure, MDF is cheap, but it still has to be cut & finished and solid surface wouldn't be affected by humidity.

highfigh, do you mean marble or fake marble? I've seen something that could be called solid surface counter material that is formica over particle board, so ??
