I recently ran into a new problem I've never worried about before. I had the insulators cut a wire. After I learned how it happened I have to say it was our own fault. The cats ran down the stud opposite side of the bay from romex. When the cats crossed over to the box (we work with the electrician to use high voltage/low voltage combos for a nicer finish ) someone left a bit of slack in the wire. Then the house got sprayed foam insulation. When the foam expanded, it apparently pushed the wire out of the bay, and when they trimmed the foam, cut it clean through.

But no one bothered to let me know until the entire ceiling and most walls were dry walled.

Add to the insulation part of the discussion; credit must be given to the great Lewis Franke for telling me about it.

With spray insulation, a certain amount of heat is generated as the product expands. Lewis relays the story of how cheap cat 5e was sprayed over, but it wasn't quite sprayed well enough, so the guy sprayed it again about five minutes later. The outer insulation kept the heat in, and the inner insulation heat melted conductor insulation, resulting in dead short behind the wall.

He discovered it by using a tdr and cutting the wall and the insulation at the specified distance.

Theres no way in hell i would prefer to cut my own holes out! Thats what brackets are for. if the drywallers fugg it up, it gets fixed.

I could go the rest of my life without ever cutting any drywall again. My hands and wrists are in such bad shape as it is...there is no way i want to be cutting in boxes and speakers around a house.

Why were they located where the bit could cut them?
