Umm, last I checked it is December. Give it two weeks and the discounts will be done.

Also, keep in mind you're doing twice the volume this month, at least, right? So even with gift cards etc you should still be coming out ahead.

Sonos is offering those gift cards to us as well, check your dealer portal. Also with at least Target connects and connect amps are not available in the stores (online only). Possibly other stores have the same setup.

Hmmm... ill have my boss check on that as I'm tired of hearing her bitching!!!

This is an amazing statement. In 1980 there was no internet, hardly any video with audio... the hardest thing was understanding that too light of a tone arm pressure would damage records just as badly as too much pressure.

I'm sensing a theme coming over me here: Way back then, and way back even just ten years ago, we could propose something pretty complicated and we could just friggin' hook it up. Nowadays, if the display is more than six feet from the HDMI source, or there are multiple sources, we spend a great deal of time just making the damn thing work after it's connected properly.

I feel this is a function of technology taking things out of our hands (I speak as a general member of society)... or rather the perception that technology is effectively taking things out of our hands. From self parking cars to learning thermostats to hiring a pro... who needs to think anymore or... when you do need to think, is it all over your head so you just throw up your hands? I am beginning to feel like that Nest codger on the commercials :)

Ive been in this business for a long time and I think Sonos Systems are my favorite to sell and install by far!  They just work!  Ive never had one piece of gear give me a problem.  Add that to the fact that just about every system we've done we've been called back to add more zones!  They really do sell themselves AND we get more referrals from Sonos systems than anything else.

I find it amusing when people cry about the margin on Sonos.  You may not make much on the Sonos gear itself, but what's got the best margins?  Speakers!  And every Sonos system we do we sell a bunch of them..  And then we get to add in our Amplifiers, Networking equipment, Rack equipment, Labor, which to me = a big fat check and a happy customer who will probably want more and will probably show it off to his friends who will call me for that Sonos system I installed at their friends house..u..  Oh yeah, and they're freaking bullet proof systems!!!
THAT'S why so many of us support Sonos!  Because it makes us a bunch of money, we have no service issues, and there's a good chance we'll get more sales from the job!!!

Oh yeah - we only sell Connects and Connect Amps, mostly I try to just use Connects with our own amps..  I've never sold ANY other Sonos equip aside from a bridge.

If Sonos is crushing Bose, what do you think they are doing to Denon. Denon is discounting, because they aren't selling.

We sell the crap out of Sonos. It's been said here 100 times, that you can make money on Sonos We sell a ton of the Rialto Amps, iDocx, Aruba, Cisco and Ubiquiti because of Sonos. The new integration with Sonos has caused a lot of my low end receiver sales to jump to the STRZA2000ES. This would have normally been a DTR20.6 from Integra. Once I show them how it works with the Sony ES and a Connect, they take the ES, which is twice the cost of the Integra. I make enough on just Sonos to pay one of my employees. And I don;t have to work that hard to sell the stuff.

Are people really having problems with STP and Sonos? If so, take some training, figure out how to make your switch work for Sonos. Not that difficult. We put in a Cisco Managed switch once a week with Sonos, and never have STP problems. I did just recently have a problem with Sonos, Cisco SG300, and ZTE gateway that was blocking UPNP. This was a problem with the Fioptics modem, and not an STP problem.

The only reason HEOS will stick around for a while is because they threw a lot of money at it. Regardless, Sonos is a slow moving train that will likely not be stopped. As others have mentioned, and the part the frustrates me the most, is Denon's margin for a disty dealer isn't much different than Sonos. I don't get how you can justify a 5% increase in margin to a 20% increase in failure rate. I'm not in the business to make money off of customers...I'm in it to make customers happy (with minimal headaches). Sonos does that for me and Denon or Nuvo does not.

And for the GC's....You do understand the companies who offer these are losing money right? They are getting people in the door because they know they will likely by other products. Nobody complains about Black Friday discounts...I don't offer those deals.

It is my observation that society as a whole is on the decline with their basic technical skills. It seems that there was a higher percentage of people that could hook up a basic stereo system in 1980 than there are in 2014.

I am starting to come to the same conclusion which means its job security. For those that think they can do it they go to youtube and watch a few videos and maybe check out AVS.

I think the problem comes down to 1) There is so much miss information out there that when they attempt it it just doesnt work. 2) People watch these videos and get scared off thinking its over their head.

So, yes in a way i agree completely.

Also when it comes to sonos and the calls I sometimes get is that it never works right, its all because of the network and nobody understands that it relies entirely on it. Networks are now a huge money make for me!

Am I going nuts... or did someone say there are discounts to us on the SONOS dealer portal? Now I can't find that comment!

Yup... You're going nuts! Actually I think most here could give the Planters guy a run for the money. :-)

We've had a total of 2 jobs with service calls on Sonos. One ZP90 died. The other job was having issues streaming songs from their iPhones which we fixed with a NAS. So that's a total of 1 piece of bad hardware in 7+ years. Other than that, the sh*t just works. Why can't the products in our industry work so well?

It works because it doesn't have anything to do with HDMI.

It'll be interesting to see what, if anything comes out of the SONOS lawsuit against Denon...

Ok... I got it figured out.. We're going to be giving out in-store credits for each SONOS piece... That way the customer must come back to US, instead of them going to the SONOS website and using their SONOS credit online with SONOS.

The denon is a good unit I'm installing 10 of them tomorrow. The rep assured of that there won't be any problem with spanning tree protocol like Sonos either

There wont be any problem. That's exactly what I'm running in my house. You'll find that Heos out classes Sonos in every way.

In EVERY way?

I'll be tempted to believe this when HEOS has a proven track record for reliability that even hints at matching Sonos' record. I really really want it to be true, but I have trouble leaving a profit generator like Sonos in search of additional revenue via an unproven product. Hopefully HEOS will prove the be exponentially more reliable than anything else Denon makes so it can compete with Sonos on all fronts.

PS. Not that it really matters for our use, but Sonos still out-classes HEOS in physical design, isn't required to use an existing wifi network, and beat Denon to the punch by the better part of a decade. Assuming that Denon only managed to make a marginally better product with that much lead time leads me to believe that Sonos will still rule this category for a few more years.
