Anyone ever heard of them? Got a message last night about setting up a home theater. They said pay is $90, I asked if it was per hour. Haven't heard back. Either way I'm not interested. If these guys are new they are going to be a pain to have in the marketplace.
Hey, careful man, there's a beverage here!

I started a thread about them on IP in the Business section. Not sure if anyone has done work for them.

Would love to know how much the customer is paying for the install and to who.
Then if the customer has any clue just how cheap the install is being done for and what kind of quality & knowledge that is going to bring.

Sometimes it's just the customer's ignorance of cost of things, that lead to this.
Other times it's the customer's willful selection to be this cheap - they get what they deserve.

Lots of duct tape and velcro for $90

Dave, no need to worry, these jobs wont take money out of your pocket. They aren't even trunk slammer worthy.

I've done a couple jobs for them. One was a customer supplied RCA universal remote. Customer was an older gentleman who couldn't understand how to program it. I forget the details but I'll be close in saying I made $30 for the job. Customer paid $55, so Geekatoo got the rest. It was only a couple miles from my house so it was worth it for me. Took me all of 15 minutes. I use it to get my foot in the door but have never had a call back.

Had another job that was close to my house. Install 6 customer supplied Niles speakers to a 6 zone multi channel amp, source being a Sonos Connect. Wires already run by another installer who got sick and retired. Geekatoo offered me $90 judged by what the customer explained to Geekatoo. Got to the job to find out the speakers were being mounted in vinyl soffeting which was too thin for the mounting clamps to tighten too. Not to mention to heavy to support them. Also not to mention no wire locations were known. Told the customer this is way more than a $90 job. Gave the customer my price and he gave me the go ahead. Long story short, lost my ass on labor but thought I could make it up on an outdoor TV install. Never got a call back.

Lesson learned.....

Who can afford to use lots of velcro on a $90 job? That crap is expensive!

gave him YOUR price and lost your ass on labor? I don't follow that.

Yeah, he's out there with all the realtors and attorneys who were going to refer so many people to me!

Lesson learned.....

I don't know. Despite all the dumbth we see in the world, we're still willing to give underqualified workers a chance to muck us up by helping, and low prices to clients unwilling to keep us in business. The lessons don't ever seem to really be learned.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

You so smart...

I think we all understood that 6 speakers meant 3 pairs, thanks for clearing that up.

Simple Ernie, I under estimated how much time it would take.

Yeah, he's out there with all the realtors and attorneys who were going to refer so many people to me!

Actually he owns a medium size car dealership.

and low prices to clients unwilling to keep us in business. The lessons don't ever seem to really be learned.

The installer that started the job and ended up retiring was a good friend of the clients so was probably doing the job for free or very little $ at most. Client was shocked when I gave him my price, hence never getting the call back to hang the outdoor display.
