So we have been dealing with the new LG TV's for about 3-4 months now. We have been an LG dealer since 2001 when they first came to the US. They have always been great to dealer with and had a decent product at a decent price, plus some nice high end, good discretes, etc.

The new WebOS TV's are terrible. They take about 50 seconds from cold start before they turn on and accept a command. This makes macros a nightmare unless you use variables. I have a tech who is awesome, and doesn't do variables. I used to send him on program jobs all the time, but these POS require If, Then programming to make them work decent.

The remotes are operating are terrible. Everything takes multiple steps to get to, and try having someone over the age of 50 use that stupid remote.

The stands on these TV's are a joke. They use the fork method on the far ends of the TV. If the TV goes on a stand, the stand must be as wide as the TV. I can't tell you how many times people have bought these TV's and had to bring them back because their stand wasn't wide enough for the TV. One sales man at Best Buy said tons of LG's come back because people don't realize the stand issue.

Some of the TV's have the screws 1" from the top of the TV making it impossible to work on certain brackets. We use Peerless brackets, and if you use their arm bracket, the arm sets about 6" above the TV. If you type in the model TV on Peerless, no arms work with them. I have tried Peerless, Snap, OmniMount, Chief and Sanus and can't find an arm that works.

What happened to the engineers at LG?

Haven't they always sucked? I've never been a fan.

Hmm, do they not have a "let's waste a bit of power and have the set instantly ready" setting?

One thing I'll say... the Sony I recently got for a bedroom has many of the faults you point out, but they also thought to provide solutions for them.

Well, the slow power-on thing. Out the box the Sony X850B will give you an image from the last used input right away, but if you want to do anything else - like change inputs or access the smart functions - there's about a 25 second delay before you can do that.

However... you can enable a mode that uses a bit more power, but keeps the set ready all the time (2 seconds to useable). Plus, there's even a setting where the set learns your viewing habits and automatically "prepares" the set for those hours of the day, and saves power when it's never in use.

It comes with one of those minimalist touchpad Bluetooth remotes that force you to swipe and tap specific areas to do things, but also a traditional button-loaded IR remote for backup... with a Netflix button.

And then the fork stand at the outer edges of the set - the Sony's like that too, but there's also an optional mid-point position you can use for narrow stands (actually, it probably looks better aesthetically regardless).

However, the VESA mount is fine - top holes are 7" away from the top of the screen on the 49".

The Sony TV's allow you to move the stand into the middle of the TV or the outside. At least with Sony I have a chance. Disable the Sony power save, and in 2 seconds you can chance channels or inputs.

Exactly. It's rather surprising that they're so accommodating. I mean they even throw in the Skype camera...
