kgossen - I think you meant to put "unbillable time" in your last sentence.

Oh yeah, I agree with what you wrote.

If you had bought it from A****n then you just could have shipped it back to them....no questions asked.
If you are going to do the job...why not do it the right way?

I like the idea of taking a sledge-hammer to it, and putting the video on YouTube in hopes of it going viral. That would be some sweet revenge that would hopefully make them rethink their stupidity.

Yet the number of videos that have gone viral showing cable TV service people going to sleep while on hold with their company, and other ridiculously stupid things, has caused no change in behavior of, say, Comcast or Time Warner.

This is a matter of scale. They sell millions of TVs, and, what, six of us out here are bitching. We are completely ignorable in their world. Before any real change occurs, pushback from the public will have to be huge compared to the complaints now.

Edit:
From [Link: arstechnica.com]:

The City Council in Worcester, MA does not want Comcast coming anywhere near its residents. The cable company is seeking a license transfer from Charter as part of a customer swap that's tied to its purchase of Time Warner Cable, but the council is trying to block it.

This is only the very start of something that might cause Comcast to change. Good luck getting Samsung users this organized!

A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

If the customer even hints "lowest price", I make sure that they buy their own TV. This way they can be confident that they've found the lowest price and I am making the minimum profit. But, it's really a variation of the tale about the rabbit (me) and the briar patch: "Please don't buy your TV elsewhere ...".

The most significant down side of this is that I can't plan anything about the mounting until I know which TV is cheapest.

It would be nice to make 50 points on the television sale. But, it ain't going to happen. However, what if you made X number of dollars on every TV you sold and you could sell two a month, four a month, 10 a month? Would that not add significantly to your bottom line at the end of the year? Percentage-wise the profit is not good but on a per piece basis, it's better than a Blu-ray player, and better than some AVRs. Is it not worth rethinking from a different angle? I am not a big dealer, but television sales make a difference in my business.

Speaking of Samsung stupidity...i just installed 13 samsungs in various sizes. These idiots put protective plastic on the bottom piece of chrome trim then they assembled it. So what does that mean? It means you need a razor knife to remove the plastic or you have to take the TV apart to get it off.

I experienced this too but you have to start at the very end of the plastic, left or right. Once you get it started, it peels across the whole panel.

You will be there for days if you start in the middle

True, but then you own it and all the issues. I personally dont find value in owning the TV.

Doesn't everything have issues? There's probably some sliding scale of what has more issues and what has less issues. There are times where I don't want to own a clients network. It certainly has the potential for more issues then a dumb ol' television. Just got to deal with some of these things.

Lest we forget programming non-discreet inputs and/or power commands...
