Looking for any recommendations for a 5.1 soundbar for my living room. Understood it is no where near ideal and I would prefer to go 3.1 + surrounds but the room doesn't allow for it.

Was looking at Definitive Technology Mythos SSA-42

Thanks

Just don't go with the solo cinema. It sounds like absolute crap.

I wouldn't recommend a sound bar. Sure, you have a speaker that is 5 (or 3) speakers in one, but each speaker (not driver) is inches (or less) away from the other one. If you can't spread your speakers far enough apart, then 5.1 effect is totally lost. All you are doing is creating noise. A wall of noise with no separation.

And without the spread of speakers, how can a door close behind you or a helicopter circle over you. Save your money and just get a good center channel like a Paradigm CC690 (or whatever you like) because at the end of the day, that one speaker you spend money on is going to produce the same effect (but better) than your combo 5 (or 3) speaker will.

Again, this is just my opinion, but having having heard sound bars, they almost always sound awful in terms of quality and have never given the true effect of separation of discrete information.

Sonos playbar, pair of ones + sonos sub.

Easy-squeasy. Not horrible sounding at all.

Don't do it. If you can't do rear speakers, then just do 3 channel and a sub

Thanks for the responses.

Agreed. Looked into it more and actually heard the Definitive Technology Mythos SSA-42 and wasn't impressed.

I guess I am going to have to roll up my sleeves and figure out a way to install a proper 5.1 system.
