What are you guys using to check for ingress in your wiring and connections and gear? FCC requires no leaks and most common leak locations also cause ingress(noise). When the cable company goes around checking and repairing their system they trap noisy structures so you lose internet, phone and two way from boxes until noise is fixed. I know they will perform a service call to repair but I am curious what if any of you do to prevent this from happening.

use good compression fit F connectors, properly installed and tighten them correctly using a 30 in/lb coax torque wrench. Have never had an issue in over twenty years of doing RF systems.

Oh - and actually DO some RF engineering on your systems. Don't just install a big wonking amplifier and a splitter and expect everything to just work. Know how much signal you're being given by your cable provider, calculate your loss on your cable runs, all splitters, etc. Figure out how much amplification you actually need. If you're pushing 50 dBmV to a TV or cable box location, you probably have a problem.

Yeah.
Did you know that high level signals at the input of an antenna or cable amp can cause the amp to distort and degrade signals all over the band while making them stronger? That the largest amount of power going through an RF amp, BY FAR, is the collection of stations called FM? That putting an amp at the downstream end of a run to amplify a low level signal is wrong, that the amp should go at the upstream end of the run?
