Have an elderly gentleman. He wants a second remote -- just so he can turn on and off zone two and adjust volume on his Denon receiver. Thats all he needs it to do...

Any suggestions welcome, thanks in advance.

seems to me the factory remote would work just fine for this. I also seem to recall denon selling dedicated zone2 remotes for pretty cheap.

edit:

like this...

Considering the time it'll take you to find, order, receive, learn and support something you don't already deal with and the no profit you're going to make on it.....just heavily discount what you do have and know, assuming you already did the rest of the sale and it was profitable.

Or, if you don't want to do that, look at the URC R series of remotes. Available at my favorite supplier....

I have a URC R-50 that I never used, but played with a bit. I think I defaulted it, but if you want it, let me know- cheap. I have an MX-500, too- never used that one, either. Both are out of warranty, but they're clean and have all of the parts and the MX has the box, packaging, etc. The R50 packaging may be here, but it was blister-packed- I'll look for it.

If you get him another Denon remote, you won't have to program it and he won't have to learn how to operate a different remote. The real saving is in instant compatibility with zero learning curve for you. Get a Denon as Impaqt suggests.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

I agree with FunHouse Texas about the Sony RMVlz-620. Under $25.00, intuitive, and reliable. Also, if you can find a URC RF-10, they're relatively inexpensive (around $65.00) and pretty intuitive for a client who's used to tactile buttons and one-button source-switching. It's also available with an RF to IR converter for about $25 to $30.00 more. Unfortunately, URC is in the process of discontinuing it.

He is either not that elderly, or he is still with it enough to figure out any remote you give him. If he is capable of operating zone 2 at all, he will get it. :)

To bad URC did not continue manufacturing the Sidekick remote. Would have been perfect.

I've seen some universal remotes in dollar stores - with large buttons. Unfortunately, I doubt that they would support a zone2.

buzz, they always support a good laugh!

Bruce, it appears that you got that image from [Link: remotes.com] where it's about fifteen dollars. Why didn't you just buy that? It's cheap; it requires no learning on your part, nor programming; it's the same one he already has so it requires no learning on his part.

If that is not EXACTLY the remote he has, well, look that one up there! This is so simple I can't believe you even asked.
