I couldn't find this in the manual. Will the latest generation of Marantz receivers pass digital signals received over HDMI out of the Zone 2 analogue outputs? Same question for Airplay? If you can Airplay to Zone 2, can you Airplay directly into Zone 2 without first selecting Airplay in Zone 1 and then choosing it for Zone 2?

Thanks.

Craig.

They won't for any of the features I inquired about?

Thanks for your reply.

I see that Marantz does the same thing as Pioneer with AirPlay. Where it's possible to send AirPlay to zone 2, but by only activating it on zone 1 first. Then having to select it to be sent to zone 2.

I can only imagine that in order to have it send to zone 2 with out affecting zone 1. There has to be some sort of set up process. It'll have to be intuitive to where you open your iPhone and see two Marantz. One is labeled Zone 1 and the other Zone 2. This would be the best way to do this in my opinion. But what would this mean for the manufacture? Would it be an easy software fix, or will there be hardware involved, hence it not being done.

If it's not in the manual, then it probably can't be done. Because in my mind this wouldn't be an easy set up per-say. So it would have to be mentioned at some point.

What happens if you have zone 1 and zone 2 turned on? First try to have them selected whatever source. Then have them selected the same source, whatever the input is used for AirPlay. Pioneer is Home Media Gallery, use whatever Marantz uses of course.

What I have thought about, and in the process of fixing up. Is to purchase a cheap iPod and permanently plug it into the Pioneer. Because the iPod/USB drive has it's own source. Thus that can be sent to zone 2 with out affecting zone 1. As a matter of fact with the iPhone app, I can select iPod/USB for zone 2 and control the music selection. I've already tested this with my iPod that I keep in my car, so I know it works.

I found a post on one of Marantz's forums. Airplay can be used in Zone 2 but only if it's selected in Zone 1 first. Additionally, if you were to turn off Zone 1, then you would lose the Airplay audio in Zone 2 as well. I think the easiest way to over come this, if Airplay is to be what's used to stream your computer audio, is to add an Airport Express for use in Zone 2. Then you can have multi-source and multi-zone with Airplay.

I know I've seen this discussed before. I just can't find it.

That's possible. Just use a 3.5mm to RCA, unless the Airport Express can do digital optical out. As many other Apple products can through the same port.

Plug the RCA into an analog source and point zone 2 to it. The down fall with this set up is that you'll need to go to the Mac to change the music. Or use Apple's Remote app. Remote by Apple

You'll hate your life in a hurry once you've got your wish.

Just add an Airport express and roll your truck out of client's drive way.

I've used the Airport Express on a few installs. I find it works great as long as it has a hardwired network connection.

I feel like these receivers are just on the verge of actually working the way we want them to. Digital audio and independent internet audio into the extra zones is a no brainer now.

I think it has something to do with most receivers only have a single DAC in them. the higher end Denon/Marantz have 2 thus allowing the distribution. I could be wrong, I was once before....

Indeed you are not wrong now. I just don't see the point of putting Z2 in the receiver if, in theory, you can't use it without all the extra effort.

Until you get called constantly from frustrated clients... Hope you get the picture.
