I am trying to help a friend in Germany with control of a Philips TV that has the REST API. I can send any sort of GET command to the TV over IP and I always get the correct response. When I send a POST command with a control command formatted as a JSON string, I always get back a 400 status which the API states is a bad request, in essence the JSON strong is not valid. I cannot see the error.

What would help me greatly is a sniffer trace of the traffic from a control system to a Philips TV that uses the Rest interface. In that way I could see the exact payload that works. The string I have been testing with is:

{"key":"VolumeUp"}

Any advice or assistance appreciated. I will be posting this on the IP/RS232 forum board also.

TIA

Barry

Is it expecting a particular text encoding perhaps? It might, for instance, require that the body text be UTF-8 encoded, since JSON typically is encoded that way.

Thanks for the reply Roddey, its been quite a while since we conversed.

The problem is I just don't know and do not have a TV to experiment on. I have been told there is a Philips app and I will look into that, but then I don't have the TV.

I did a google and this helpful thread popped up. See the last post: [Link: supportforum.philips.com]

And here is the iOS app I think: [Link: itunes.apple.com].
