Have a little project where the architect & interior designer do NOT want to use a Playbar on this stainless steel wall where the TV is located.
There IS a small alcove above the TV location for a PLAY 5. No attic, no crawl space below...
Can I even use the PLAY 5 for the TV's audio???

Can I even use the PLAY 5 for the TV's audio??? Time to start piping outside... You can use any Sonos speaker you want for basically whatever you want. The only condition is somehow getting audio from your tv to either the connect Or a connect amp to then stream to the play 5. Depending on your tv mount You might be able to tuck a connect behind the tv. This assumes you have extra Power outlet back there and also don't mind an inability to easily Service the product. Hopefully you have an extra internet line too Or you'll need a bridge as well.

uhh, sounds like you need to spec a custom bar from James, LEON, or Triad.
James makes their bars out of aluminum, If its a steel wall then have James or the others build one out of steal to match the wall...OR just have it match the TV.
I agree with the designer, the sonos playbar is butt f*@ ugly.

Play5 has a line-in. Analog out of TV, set the auto-on for the line in so it switches when the TV turns on. Done. Oh and you can specify a volume level for the auto switching I believe. So they can still use the TV remote for volume control.
Or do something else. :)

Sonos analog inputs do have a slight delay. You customers may or may not notice but if they do you might need another solution.

I wouldn't use that as the primary source, the delay will be noticeable If sonos is a must, use a connect, into a parasound zamp v.3 into some bookshelfs OR use a custom soundbar

I do not know why the delay on a PLAY:5 would be worse than a CONNECT. Set the line in to uncompressed and it should be decent enough.

Every one of the Sonos units besides PLAYBAR has a delay. I have noticed the delay varies based on the size and configuration of the Sonos system. For example, I once set up a system that had a TVs analog output going directly to a PLAY:5. That was it. Weeks later, we added a few more zones, some wireless, some not, and the delay became much worse. It didn't matter if uncompressed was selected or not. YMMV. At the end of the day, the only model made for the application is the PLAYBAR.
If you don't want to go full blown AVR, speakers, etc, you might consider the Snap Mini Amp. 2 inputs, one for TV, one for Sonos, IR volume control and adjustable priority sense between the inputs.

I think one important factor over looked here, the playbar works with TV because it auto detects the TV signal and turns on, and it learns IR for volume. Using a play5 for TV will be a clusterf*%# on every level.

I have a similar job and showed them some stuff from leon, but was told to try to hide some book shelfs on either side of tv. How about in ceiling speakers and a little drywall damage?
