Go to settings-network setup-restore defaults (restore it) -go to advanced setup-configure now.

It will choose to go ethernet over wifi when you click configure now.

Looks like it worked the second time, combined with changing the wifi password. Before it would see the Ethernet connection, but not the Internet

crazy what it takes lol. you would THINK that if a device sees a wired connection it would just automatically switch over.

I guess that just makes to much sense :)

If you google HR44 wired Ethernet, you will find multiple forums where people have asked if its ok to use wired, because the directv installer told them the HR44 would only work on wireless. In several cases, installers connected the receiver to wifi, even though the router and HR44 were setting next to each other.

I'm assuming that for some reason DTV has made the system favor wireless. It's probably to try to reduce people from calling tech support when they move their router

This might be the deal. I think on receivers at least prior to the 44 that MRV will not work if anything is plugged into the Ethernet port. You had to inject it into the DECA cloud via ethernet-->coax "broadband DECA" adapter or this other hideous Cinema Connection box that had wired or wireless built in.

So unless that changed if you want MRV to work your choices are to connect wifi or use the classic setup.

It used to be anytime you changed from wifi to LAN you were REQUIRED to reset the dvr - red button or unplug/re-plug.
