I'm doing a system in Door County, WI and the system will be using a projector, not a TV. Because they don't want to use satellite (it's a vacation home and they don't want to have to repeatedly suspend the service and expect it to work when they decide to go back at a moment's notice), I'll need some kind of tuner for the local stations. The other sources will

My questions are:

-Has anyone seen one that has Component Video out? (I doubt anyone makes one with HDMI)
-Has anyone seen one with better than average video quality?
-Has anyone seen one with a good, discrete code set?
My mechanic told me, "I couldn't repair your brakes, so I made your horn louder."

Channel Master and ZeeVee both offer stand alone set top tuners. They feature hdmi outputs.

Discrete codes will be tough to get at the low end of the market. Contemporary Research plays at a higher end, and may offer greater control flexibility.

I installed a Contemporary Research a couple of years ago. IIRC it did have discrete power. Serial control and HDMI. IIRC it was around $750.
No, it doesn't come preprogrammed.

The Channel Master DVR+ is very nice. Has HDMI and SD outputs. Connect to the internet and you can access a program guide and set up recordings. No monthly programming costs.
Connect an external hard drive and it can DVR their favorite programs.

more or less all of them have HDMI, Component is a bit harder.
-Has anyone seen one with better than average video quality?

unless you are looking for a PVR the PQ will be determined by the broadcast station
-Has anyone seen one with a good, discrete code set?

I don't work with simple tuners, all my clients that want OTA want PVR functionality as well.

What do you use when they want a PVR?

LG LST3510a (DVD & HD Tuner) should do the job as it has both component out, and DVI out.

I sent you a PM about this item....

Basic TiVo Roamio will have HDMI and Component outputs. Works great. Higher end models no longer have Terrestrial tuners though! you must use the cheap one.

The Channelmaster is very good as well, but keep in mind, DVR+ is NOT a DVR unless you add a hard drive.

I dont understand Anthony's picture quality comment. I've always felt the quality of the tuner was more important with todays high def broadcasts.

I have used the CH Master DVR+ and it works very well (had it on a Pioneer Kuro)
Picture quality was as good.

Learned codes into RTI controller and all worked perfectly fine.

Very small amount of HD space, enough for pausing and maybe recording a show or two, adding a HD is required if user wants to do some time shifting or keeping shows around for awhile.

Free TV guide (if internet connection available) is big bonus now that TVGOS is gone, or has been gone for awhile now.

No monthly fees, like some of the others out there.

The basic Tivo has the OTA tuner but doesn't have component output but has composite output. The higher end models don't have the OTA tuner but have component output.

Channel master now makes a model with a built in 1TB drive so you can record with it. The Channel master models are HDMI only

I didnt realize the Basic Roamio didnt have Component...

You could always add a Mini to it though if you really needed Componant with your base TiVo though.
