Did anyone happen to check out this booth? I need some cool looking ceiling mount speakers and these might be a good fit. Looks like they are based in Belgium: [Link: ebtb.eu]Specifically interested in these models: [Link: ebtb.eu][Link: ebtb.eu]Any other suggestions would also be appreciated. I'm looking for ultra-modern/futuristic surface mounted speakers that can be ceiling mounted. Need to be suspended from a concrete ceiling. Designer wants something that doesn't look like a speaker. Speakers need to sound good (without adding a sub) but don't require high SPLs. Price not too much of a concern, but less than $2k pair would be ideal. Small is good too... Cheers, Paul

I know you already know this but to restate: Sounding good 'with no subwoofer' AND physically small - do not go together. The laws of physics can not be broken.
He can have some designer speaker that are small and sound very smooth (good) in the mid to upper range - but lack warmth and substance (lower end). Or he can have large designer speakers (or a 2 piece system) and have overall good sound.

I've found the Opalum FLOW 4810 to be very designer friendly, and offer very good sound. What about B&O, another designer favorite. [Link: opalum.com][Link: bang-olufsen.com]

To each his/her own Paul.
Those look like some kind of giant bug that's hanging there just waiting to jump onto someones head and kill them, leaving behind a puddle yellowish slime... :-)

Apparently you've never heard of Bose. Oh wait, they don't break the laws of physics either. I know that comment will butt hurt Stanley, as he likes to smell Amar Bose's farts. So.... yeah...what Brad says!!!!

I don't care, those speaker Paul linked are a really cool choice for a modern design! That would be bad ass to attach those to a concrete ceiling! Sub's are easy, Stealth or Triad. They could either go under a piece of furniture or hidden in the wall....

Martin Logan has an electrostatic for about $2200/pr. Most people wonder where ARE the speakers in that! [Link: martinlogan.com]Don't use cheap electronics to drive it though! Or these are $4k [Link: essenceelectrostatic.com] Have not heard them, made in Belgium Whoops, I missed the part that you needed to mount them from the ceiling, but I guess if there is a will there is a way! lol Damned designers that cannot "design" a room around real speakers! lol

Thanks for all the suggestions so far...
What I'm really looking for is something the equivalent of a surface (bracket) mount speaker that looks way cooler than a JBL Control or generic outdoor speaker.
The room is a home gym and it's a concrete box. One wall is all mirror, one wall is a living green wall (covered with plants) and the other two walls are padded fabric (but not acoustic fabric) and only have 2" of depth so I can't really do anything in the walls.
The ceiling is bare concrete and is a post tensioned slab for the floor above so I have strict requirements about where I can attach to the ceiling and how long the attachment hardware is. I can penetrate up to 1.25" with tapcons (or similar) to handing small speakers wont' be an issue.
I'm not looking for tiny Bose cube type speakers, but won't have room to hang something with a 10"-12" woofer either. Sub woofers aren't possible because of the room construction and absence of furnishings to hide one, but I think a pair of speakers with 5-1/4" to 6-1/2" woofer will be ok.
Room dimensions are only 18' x 26' x 8'. The client is a musician and appreciates good quality sound (and will pay for it), but doesn't listen to music loudly. We're putting in speakers and amplification from Chris Pelonis in a number of rooms including a recording studio and theater, but designer want's something that looks cooler in the gym where they will be visible.
The nacsound speakers that Neurorad linked look cool, but I want something that's more directional because wall treatments are so varied.
The opalum that jcmith linked is neat too (and ceiling mount like I asked for), but again, not really what I'm looking for. I only have two corner mount locations, so need something that can be attached to the ceiling with brackets or cables and hung down to aim into the room.
B&O suggested by several is a good idea, but I don't think they have any ceiling mount units and most tend to rely on reflected sound too. The client already owns a pair of the big BeoLab 5s that I have setup in a room with turntable for 2-channel listening. I'm also looking for a traditional 4-8 ohm speaker because wiring and amplification is already in place.
Waiting on the designer to comment on the Everything but the Box speakers. I think he's going to like how they look, but I don't have any idea how they sound and it's a little hard to get past the cheesy company name.
Still interested in other options if anyone has additional ideas now that I've provided some more information.

what about those monitor audio speakers with the printable speaker grille? [Link: monitoraudiousa.com]No designer I know loves them but they are really good speakers underneath!

I can't put anything on the walls and because the ceiling height is so low I don't really want anything the points straight down from the ceiling. I'm really stuck with corner mounting two speakers that hang down from the ceiling and can be aimed into the room.

You could 'fly' most bookshelf (and floor-standing) speakers with aircraft cable, hanging them from the ceiling.

Understood, but the ceiling is low so the speaker needs to be somewhat small and the most important thing as mentioned in my original post is that I've been task to find something that doesn't look like a traditional speaker.
Because of this I think the little James cubes are out too.
I think the designer & client will like the speakers from the company I linked, I'm just not sure how they sound or how difficult they are going to be to get. Doesn't look like they have any US dealers/distributors.
