I installed a new LG plasma TV and the client wants to use his Windows phone to stream Pandora to the TV. This is the first Windows phone I have seen and LG's tech support people were no help, at all.

The TV has Internet access, but the cursor moves so slowly it's almost useless. It does have Netflix, Amazon, Hulu Vudu and other apps, but I'm thinking that using a Roku would be a better solution.

Any info or opinions are appreciated.

Thanks.

he Wants to stream low bit music to his Incredibly horrible TV Speakers?

If hes set on that tpath for whatever reason, Roku is going to be his best bet for sure.

Of course, thats not going to stream from his phone. You just log into Pandora on the roku.

For DA/background, streaming is fine- I do it in my garage, using an AirPort Express.

I should have included this, but didn't think it was necessary- The TV audio output is connected to his AV receiver and he has speakers on Zone 2. He wants to stream from his phone so he doesn't need to go into the house to change the music.

Low tech people, but he known how to use Pandora on his phone, so it would be the easiest way to do this. He has really bad back problems, so getting up/sitting down is very difficult for him. I have an iPhone, not an Android or Windows phone, although I'm probably going to get one so I can mess with this stuff.

I have three Rokus and already mentioned it to him, but since I don't have a non-Apple phone, I can't try the apps for streaming to the Roku.

Supposedly, the 'Play To' app works, but I don't have much experience with it.

Did you sell him a receiver, or is it an older piece?

I use the Marantz app on my main floor and that will let me turn on zone 2 and use it for Pandora on my deck. Works ok and the price is right...though I wouldn't sell it to a customer that way.

Why would you want to stream to the TV instead of the Receiver then? Is the TV even connected analog back to the receiver? Most Zone 2's only work with analog connections.

this is why describing exactly what your trying to do and the equipment you are working with is important.

Does he need to see metadata or does he just care about sound going to his TV?

I have not used it, but bluetooth dongle would work on RCA input.

It's an older piece and it still works fine, although the guy who installed it must not have known that Zone 2 needs analog audio from all of the sources, so he connected the outdoor speakers to Sp B and that caused them to occasionally forget how high the volume setting was and when SP A was turned on, it was scary loud. The receiver isn't IP-capable but it's also not the end of the World if it doesn't work this way- I called hm earlier and told him that I won't recommend any app until I have seen it work reliably.

What I already posted really does indicate what I want to do- stream to the TV from the phone via WiFi, which then sends the audio to the AVR. I had also stated the brand of TV and make/model of phone, that the TV has network connection and listed some of the apps- the model is 60PB6650.

that TV only has Optical output. I have no idea what you really want out of this at this point....

I have D/A converters, so that's not a problem.

I think you're out of luck. Windows phone doesn't support airplay, which is an apple protocol. That's what you're really asking for, is an Airplay equivalent. Streaming audio over the IP network to the TV. You'll never find an Airplay compatible TV by itself because the licensing costs are so high. Your options are limited pretty much to an apple TV or a high end receiver that supports it. Never mind the fact that the customer has a Windows phone.

You might consider something that connects to the receiver and has an app with metadata for channel selection. I bought my wife a grace digital for her office and put it through an old Yamaha receiver. The grace app works fine. Different models with varying outputs, functionalities, and price points.

I contacted LG tech support and they mentioned Miracast, but the 925 doesn't have the hardware for it. PlayTo and AllPlay are Droid apps, but I need to find out if they'll work. I think I mentioned that the TV us DLNA capable, but I haven't found enough info about the phone.

Ack!

He says they wouldn't play one thing in the Living Room and something else on the Patio- if they can stick to that, I'd think about a BT receiver and call it a day. I think I'll take one of my Rokus to their house and try it- if it works with AllPlay, I'll tell him that it's the best solution, at this time. They'll probably add Netflix, etc.

Just tried play to lite. It does not allow streaming from the pandora app. My choices are audio, video, photos. All are files android has access to. I saw no option for streaming "live" media. Maybe I missed it.
