Since I tend to be the resident DirecTV expert here, I would like to share a couple of things:
Current Promo for Free equipment to a new account is:
1 Genie [5tuners] (current model = HR44 last years # = HR34) + 3 clients [wired or wireless are totally free but DTV charges the customer $100 for the video bridge that make the wireless units work]
OR 4 HD boxes [H-24 or H-25]
* HD DVRs [2 tuners] are not offered for free to any customer getting more than 1 rec'r; IE 1 TV. These are offered free to a 1 TV household.

If you make a 5th TV an HR24 (HD-DVR with 2 tuners), it will marry up with the Genie so that hitting the "List" button displays a combined list of recordings on both units.

According to the training class I attended and given by the DTV engineering dept, the video bridge for the wireless clients uses a frequency around 450Mhz.

The IR coding on all models for last 10 years is all the same. The latest models are more responsive to IR signals

All the HD units that are capable of working in IR or RF can only be in one or the other; not both. EXCEPT FOR THE GENIE MODELS [#HR34 & HR44] WHICH ARE CAPABLE OF DOING RF & IR AT SAME TIME. THESE MODELS WILL STILL WORK WITH THE OLDER STYLE WHITE IR REMOTES BUT NOT THE OLDER STYLE WHITE RF REMOTES. For RF you must use the newer style RC71 remotes which many customers don't like as much as the white ones.

IP control still works when using RF but I am not familiar with controlling by RS232. We have customers using RF remotes and the DTV IPAD AP at same time which works via IP.

Deca/Moca modules do not take up a tuner space(count) in a swim system. These are device that mixed IP & RF over co-ax

H-25 will only work in a swim system. Where as H-24 will work with a 6x8 switch or in a swim system but will need a B-band converter if used with a switch. We use these mostly with older in service systems that have not been installed with swim. PLEASE note H-24s tend to over heat more often in a closed cabinet than H-24. All new installs are supposed to be done with swim.

FINALLY - Have the customer contact a local dealer in your area! A good local dealer can cater to you and your customer a lot better than corporate 800 #s or .com contacts. Whether customer is new account or already has DirecTV they can set up their order and see what they promos qualify for. Its tough to find on DTVs web site but "Find a retailer" is buried in the bottom right corner of DTV.com (abbreviated).Try this: [Link: directv.com]

Thank u for this information! Not sure why my client is being charged for every receiver in his new account.

Also, I had been told by more than one installer that the DECA does burn a tuner...you're certain this is not the case?

DECA does NOT use a tuner. It in no way shape or form tunes in satellite channels (frequencies) and has nothing to do with the amount of SWM channels available for the system.

Chuchjr, the hr34 uses the same RF remote and frequency as previous directv receivers, and its still IR or RF only. The HR44 is only current receiver other than the THR22 TiVo that accepts both IR & RF signals at the same time.

Charged per month or charged for the actual box, ie $99 each for the install? If per month, that's correct, if for the install per box, that's not correct and can be fixed with a phone call and possibly a little rant.

The month charge is 6-10$ per box plus ONE hd charge per month.

Thanks for the confirmation, Brad. This makes total sense to me, but is contrary to what I'd heard from DirecTV installers in the past.

Ranger...My client is looking at a $750 plus up-front charge to install the following, WITH a 2 year contract:

1x HR24
5x H24
1x H25
3x Legacy RF Remotes
1x H25 RF and Wall-mount Kit

They offered a Genie set-up with Genie clients for free. Based on what I've learned from you fine gentlemen, we're revising the order to replace the HR24 with the HR44 and replace 3 of the HR24's with Genie clients.

Since most of us don't touch Bose, I've got to ask a question or two:

Does Bose show a way to control ANY of the DirecTV receivers?
Is your HR44 in RF Mode? I'm not sure, but that might lock out the IR mode.

The rest of you guys: yes, he asked a question on an old thread. How about we don't get carried away, then irritated, trying to answer the original question this time!
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Some Bose remotes are made by UEI, try code 01377? For many years only oem remotes with working code for directv were ONLY made by UEI. I have no idea how it is now.
