Gee, it's too bad that all sorts of technical difficulties prevented TWC from doing this before now. What an AMAZING coincidenced that their technology improved so greatly just as Google Fiber is moving into the neighborhood! [Where is that sarcasm font when I need it?] This was originally captioned I live in an area that is getting Google Fiber. I got this in the mail. I think they're scared. There's no indication of where this is happening.

Competition is an amazing market force. A great comparison between government economic control and market forces.

I am In TWC and they gave us 100Mbps for "Free" and we will soon be 300Mbps for "Free". coincidence, me thinks not. Now I have heard nothing about Google fiber coming into the area.
Will we be more regular with this Google Fiber?

Except in Houston where Comcast and Verizon never compete (they stay in their own territories), the only competition is UVerse which offers anemic internet bandwidth. High price or crap delivery, take your pick.
Google fiber -- or any other disruptive force would be welcome. But in the absence, should government play a role, any role to increase competition?

In general, the more government gets involved in actually doing anything, the worse things get. The role for government here is similar to that for electrical power and mail delivery: make providers guarantee same service for everyone regardless of location. That's pretty extreme for internet, I agree, but it also is and was for electricity and rural mail delivery. Yet those schemes were created and seem to work.

Google is the devil Use a privacy VPN. They are cheap, and work well. It's a simple thing that makes your internet use much safer than 95% of other users.

Google is the devil I've generally avoided social networking, gmail, and many apps, for fear of being 'tracked' by advertising and such. Recently, though, I've come to realize that it's already a done deal. Phone carriers do it, and many browsers as well. It's too difficult to avoid. Plus, I'm coming to accept that it's for marketing, and it's really not a huge deal. Data mining is for money, not something more sinister than money.

I am ok with data mining for money. I would rather watch commercials that are targeted to me. It beats the hell out of watching tampon commercials.

Well I do mind. I want my privacy. Why should every private thought or internet search now become subject to data mining and the invasion of my privacy.
Enough already

Enough already Use VPN as suggested above. I do, I think PIA is like $20 for the year.
