FLIRC ??
OTG ??

I may be getting too old for this industry......please can you explain to an old dinosaur what these terms mean...?!!

FLIRC is a product, purchasable on Amazon. Basically it's an IR-to-USB Keyboard dongle. It can be programmed to send any keystroke when it receives any IR command. It's benefit is it has extreme customizability and excellent performance, and it's compatible with anything that can accept standard USB keyboard input.

Its name stands for "F*ck LIRC", where LIRC stands for Linux Infrared Remote Control, the system process used for receiving and processing IR commands from add-on or built-in IR sensors on numerous Linux-based computers, TV boxes, media players, etc. LIRC is notorious for being difficult to configure/customize and for having laggy / erratic performance.

OTG has already been explained, but basically it's a cable that allows something that's normally a USB device (like a cell phone) to act as a host (like a laptop / computer) and accept accessory devices (like keyboards, cameras, game controllers, etc.)

So, basically, it would be a cable that adapts a Female USB-C or Female Micro USB socket, into a Female USB-A socket.

In terms of the cable needed for the FireTV stick, as the FireTV only has a single Micro USB port and it's used to power the device, you need a special Y-cable that splits off a female Micro USB jack so that power can continue to be supplied while your accessory device is plugged in.

I have been able to successfully control the Fire Stick using an IR Universal Remote (Control4). The remote I have for the Fire Stick has the additional buttons for microphone (voice input) and volume up/down, and power. What I am looking for is the IR codes for the fast forward and rewind "Long Press". there is a different code emitted when you hold either the FFW or REW buttons for more than a second. They are not simply repeating codes. Does anyone have these codes?

Thanks!

Just so everyone knows, the codes for Fire TV are the same as Xbox 360. I am trying to control one for a Savant remote but I am struggling with the "back" button, the 360 codes don't show a back button on Savant.

Does anyone know the actual ir code for "back" on the Fire TV remote?? For instance, the code for pwr on is "0000000000008CA00060001E001000100010001000100021001000210030002000100010001000100010001000100010001000100010001000100010001000100010001000100010002000100010001000100010001000210020001100100010001000210021001E0010001000100010001000100020001F0020002100200020001002D500000000"

I'm looking for the specific code for the "BACK" button

I bought a Fire TV stick a few months ago and wanted to control it with my Elan system. I tried the Intrinsic Dev driver and it was too slow to respond.
I found out about the FLIRC USB IR receiver and the USB splitter cable. I found that to be the easiest way to control the Fire TV. I used old Sony DVD IR commands and they work perfectly. I think it was $25 total in parts.

I used the IR codes from Inteset 422-3 remote and Inteset IReTV USB IR Receiver combination to control Nvidia shield via IR. The Inteset has an option also for fireTV. Just enter 5 digit code and it will emit fire TV IR. I have not tested whether interest Ire TV USB IR receiver works with firetv. Amazon sells a IR receiver with usb for the fireTV (which is what I am using)
