Is it OK for a TV to sit so long without ever being used? I thought that I read that the capacitors could go bad or something along those lines.

Maybe someone will buy it.
But I don't think I could go there. After all, 2K for a 50" PDP that doesn't have a warranty is pushing the envelope.

I figured as much but there have been a few on here commenting on how awesome they are, I thought I would throw it out there.
Its a risk I would not take.

Those where a blowout sale from the buying group HES. I bought several years ago. Way less than $2k.Sold them for way more than cost. But $2k is way high. I have one in my study I would sell for a grand right now. They are nice. But not $2k nice, that old.
