So I'm gonna have a technician check it before firing it back up.

Seriously?

I've been been doing the off road/racing thing for 35+ years and the general consensus has always been..........

I'm glad everyone is alright.

Revived this thread for this weekend.....
Well, I carved out a few hours this week to pick up my new Jeep Sahara JKU. I'm giddy as a schoolgirl. Tonight will consist of me hitting the forums hard on how to upgrade this awful excuse for a "premium" audio system. Maybe 3PM will chime on this :)

Then of course I will be waking up at the crack to be the bunny.

Happy Easter to all of you!

Since our horse moved on to greener pastures (RIP DUSTY) I'm converting the 1000 sq.ft. barn into something more useful (to me anyway!).

I ran a 50 amp sub panel off of the shop for lighting and outlets, moved the fence 65ft further into the pasture, and moved the 24ft speedboat into one of the stalls.

The entire time I kept looking at that extra, now unused acre, and kept thinking of how much fun a circle track and maybe a short off road "proving ground" would be!

Maybe next weekend ;-)

Dude!!!! Congrats!!!! that is awesome man. Im sure glad this "premium" audio system was included on the rubicon and your sahara. I would be raising hell if i was dumb enough to order it.

We are actually starting on the fiberglass subwoofer enclosure next weekend. here are the current parts i have for my build:

JL HD900/5 Amp
JL XD200/2 Amp
JL 10w3v3-2 Subwoofer
Rockford 3sixty3 audio processor
2x underseat amp racks from a guy that makes them on the forum, when they are installed you cant see that there is anything under the seat!

Ordering the HERTZ HSK165's as soon as my bank account recovers from this new james/sonos demo kit :)

Im driving my installer mad since im forcing him to use the OEM dash radio since i hate aftermarket radios and want this to look as OEM as possible since the doors and top gets pulled off :)

Dude. You read my mind. I want to keep the factory HU. My installer is trying to get me to switch. I'm not budging though. My guy wants to go with the JL Cleansweep (I've had luck with them in the past) so I'm ok with that even though my local disty carries car gear from Rockford. With that said, I'll likely go with the Rockford 1000X5. I haven't picked out subs yet (gotta figure out airspace volume) but I do want a downward firing box in the back acting like a "shelf" like in this pic below. I already swapped out the sound bar speakers to a set of polk DB651's I had laying around, and filled it with poly fill. Much better. I swear this "premium" POS Alpine system was made by Bose. There is absolutely no highs or lows. It's just sounds like a muffled mess.
VERY interested in under seat amp rack. Are you finding this on JKforums or Wranglerforums?
Thanks a ton for the info Brendon. Much appreciated.

Here is what the bracket looks like, the guy that sells them also includes all the hardware, IIRC it is 65 for one or 109 for two. i have 2 of them because i have a bunch of equipment. in this picture he ran out of space :) the HD900/5 fits absolutely perfect on the tray.

The guy that sells them is very quiet about them and only does WOM haha..PM jeepedjeep at wrangler forum. Tell him i sent you :)

I have NEVER been compelled to do anytype of car audio before, EVER. the vehicles systems have always been tolerable for me, until this jeep. it does some gnarly things to music. the first mod i did was to stuff the soundbar with polyfill lol, very little help with the POS speakers.

My subwoofer will be as OEM as possible. I am even going as far as to remove the OEM subwoofer panel in the rear and replace it with a non sub panel found in the sports/sport S's. We are also ripping out the interior and spraying it with lizard liner sound deadening and ceramic insulation. There is very little insulation and when your off roading within 45 minutes it starts cooking you. im also going to take the opertunity to spray overtop of the lizardliner with rinolining, i havent decided quite yet if i want to remove the carpets entirely yet.

My installer is really annoyed that i refuse to switch the headunit, but i absolutely despise them and actually really like the 130n HU that is in the jeep :) the goal at the end of this is to have a 100% oem looking system. hardest part is disguising the subwoofer but i think we have a solution that will pass as OEM!

I've installed thousands of car audio systems(not kidding.I was in the biz since I was 18).

I know you have serious space restrictions regarding the sub if you want to keep it stealth.

If there is ANY WAY that you can angle the sub down....even a few degrees....from vertical,it will sound a hundred times better than firing it out into space.

Bass sounds better when it can reflect of of something due to wavelength of the low frequency and your're perception of that sound.

In the IASCA days(back when sound quality and imaging was the main goal)I built several cars that made it to the finals as well as my own Jeep CJ that impressed a lot of judges with the top OFF.

I also became a Judge for a few years. I lost interest when SPL and BASS became the only criteria......sound quality didn't mater and I moved on to the CI side where people wanted music to sound like it was supposed to!

Thanks for the tip man! I wanted to angle it slightly down anyway for water incase it gets rained on if the tops off :)

If you don't mind me asking,What are your thoughts on arc audio? I've read that they are a little known gem I'm the car audio world and the black series keeps up with some of the best like focal and hertz and they are priced to low for what you get with them.

I haven't ordered the speakers yet and I am still debating on going with arc or hertz

I haven't really had any experience with ARC audio.
If they sound good to you, give them a shot and let me know what you think.

Hertz sound pretty dang good at any price but I will always favor Focal for Tweets.

I wish I was doing the work on your Jeep!
I really miss the fabrication and installation of my 12vlt days!

The best seat in the house was always limited to two seats.

Now I have to cover an entire room ;-)

Installing good car audio systems is a true art. Some crazy work being done out there!

Unless you are enjoying the visual ;) skip to 1:20 and turn off your speakers.
Unfortunately this is what wins contests.

Bump for the weekend :)

Just got out of work. Pouring a Captain (black) and Coke. Hitting the various forums as usual.
Jeep audio update: I'm hearing great things about the Hertz gear. I was going to do 2 Pioneer 10" Superflat subs (I have them in my Tundra and they are ok), but I think I want a little more than that. A remote bass knob will be key, as when I'm playing "let it go" for the 3000th time driving with the kids, my 3 year doesn't get blown through the soft top by the SPL's. At the same time, when I'm flicking through my playlist and come across the good hip-hop from 1995, I'd like my mirror to shake off the windshield. :)

Cheers......

Go JL or PPI if you can . Rockford ruled years ago but it isn't as good as Jl . Don't waste your time with the w7 either . W3's in the right box with the right amp sound great.

Working on perfecting a pizza crust. I've ran into some issues with the crust burning so I've been trolling around pizza oven forums learning recipes and tips for producing a great pizza.

Currently I'm using a gas grill and pizza stones with a internal temp around 550. I need to bring home an infrared thermometer to determine the stones temp. I believe my problem is the amount of AP flour and Semolina used when transferring the dough. I use a metal peel which I will hopefully get a wood one for my BDay. That way I can lightly coat the wood vs. putting a bunch on the pizza peel.

Other tests I'm considering would be to try a super peel or using parchment paper for the first 2 mins then pulling it to crisp up the crust. I've also read that using a damp cloth to cool the stone just before you start grilling.

My pizza making keeps evolving. I'm working on perfecting the perfect cooking method and dough then I'll move to the sauce and ingredients. We are probably making pizza's every other week for guests!
