A customer has contacted me about his Lutron system. He bought the house a year ago, and it has a Homeworks Interactive system. I use a notebook computer running XP for older stuff, but the USB to serial adapter I have doesn't seem to be compatible with the HW processor. I've used it to program a few MX-850's, even on my Windows 8 laptop, so I know the adapter works.

My old Dell laptop used to have a serial port, but that computer died a while ago. Hence the adapter.

Is anyone using a USB to serial adapter successfully with Interactive? Are you using XP, Vista or 7?

I may look around for a used laptop with a serial port as well.

TIA for any suggestions.

Make sure the adapter is in the port assigned to it by the setup- some, like the GoldX GXMU-1200-1201 require this.

+1
but if you have a pcmcia slot on your laptop then I would suggest going this route, just seems to be more reliable/stable connection to the serial port...but, YMMV.
