Does the HR44 have to be controlled by RF in order to control C41s by RF?

We've just had a new DirecTV setup, the HR44 Genie with three C41s. We want to control the HR44 by IR.

I've just gone to one of the C41s to program it for RF... using the old remotes because that's what they're used to here.

It just occurred to me: did someone say that the clients cannot operate on RF using the old style remotes?

If the old remotes can be set up to operate the clients via RF, please tell me how. The choice of IR/RF doesn't even show up on the screen!

Thanks.

edit: I also checked settings of the HR44 with an RC66RX. IR/RF is grayed out... so I guess no luck with the old remotes.

The only reason I am trying this is that the installer, who was incredibly knowledgeable, brought me some old units for the C41s. Maybe he thought I wanted to control them by IR.

A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Correct. HR44/C41 cannot be controlled by the "old" remotes via RF. You have to use the new and "improved" ones with the dorky rocker volume controls. Awesome, huh?

Nice to hear someone else call them dorky. The installer was all "gee, those are cool." I really liked him and he was GREAT at everything he did, but he drank the kool-aid on those things.

The form factor on the new remotes sucks, but I do enjoy the RF effectiveness. Great range and REALLY good fast GUI response.
