We have been thinking of getting a master electrician on staff and starting a electrical division.

Trying to figure out if it makes financial sense so i have a few questions.

Please PM me if you know about the business side of a electrical contractor since I would prefer to keep financial info off of the board.

hopefully one or two of them will reach out to me.

its funny after working so close with the sparkys for so many years you would think i would have a little more insight.

and of course its hard to ask those that I know how to become their competitor.

We'll this is exactly what has happened to me. 10 years in the electrical side if things jumping over to the "low voltage" side almost a year ago.

It is different but I do miss what I was doing before, hopefully I can get back to doing electrical soon.

I have both licenses. It's about the financial upside of billing for electrical work, but rather being more self-sufficient on a job site and being able to offer a premium service to your clients and maintaining a higher level of control over the project.

I keep looking at doing this too, however you can only do electrical if you have a master electrician on staff and operating under your company name (at least here we do).

So if you own the company and hire a master electrician to work for you, then you can only do electrical work while they are on staff. If they leave for any reason, then you are SOL for the projects you have on the go.

This is my fear of why I have not jumped on this yet.

i believe most states have a contingency clause that allows a relatively small grace period to hire a new master.
