I am trying to convert HDMI to component. The HD Fury HDMI converter that solves the HDCP problem is expensive. Would this scenario work? What if I run the HDMI signal through an inexpensive HDMI splitter that claims to pass HDCP then run the HDMI output from the HDMI splitter into an inexpensive Conversion Technologies HDMI to component converter, would this solve my HDCP problem? Thanks for the help.

no-

The only way to do what you want to do is the HDfury.

Edit to clarify.

The HDCP protected source needs to complete its handshaking and key exchange protocol with the destination device. The HDMI splitter that passes HDCP does exactly that- it passes the HDCP handshaking through. Depending on the source it might be able to sink multiple connections or it might only sink one key. it is up to the manufacture to decide how many devices their equipment will sink.

if you try to use a regular splitter with a device that will only sink one key it will only work with the first display, power on a second display and you will lose signal to the first display.

The HDfury essentially spoofs a completed handshake as a protected destination and then converts it to component video as non protected.

Steve,

This issue has been answered over and over for you. If you find that the HD Fury is too expensive, then the hodge-podge that you are putting together will most likely cost you double, maybe even triple in the long run. At least upgrade the receiver that will upconvert component signal to HDMI output. It will also have HDMI inputs for the devices that need it.

What exactly are we missing here????

PS: Not trying to be a d*ck either.

Steve.

Upgrade your display or your AVR, get an HDMI extender.

Its 2014 tough sh!7 you HAVE to do it.

Sorry to be so crass, but this is reality if you want things to work.

Steve,
you've asked for advice in several threads. People have given you advice. Please take it.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

There's this thing called "Google" and it's just brim full with information.

I don't think that was meant to be taken literally, but was meant to imply a whole potload of other things, such as "how expensive is that going to be, including accounting for the time you're spending, in comparison to just getting the right freakin' equipment and be done with it?"
