So today my son got his GF a birthday present... She is about 25 or so... What did she want? Take the test: A. Gucci Purse B. Shoes C. Fancy dinner d. Turntable Answer: D! He got her a Denon DP 300f - and I am donating my Magnaplanar speakers and my old amplifier! We are sneaking over to her place Friday while she as work and setting everything up, and we bought a bunch of records (some new) some used in good shape! There is still hope for young-uns these days!

A Grammaphone? He wrote that she's 25. She should be totally offended by this.

I find it interessting- their mutual fascination with turntables and records. They are looking forwaard to hitting all of the local used record stores... My son asked me to give him a list of my favorite records and artists to "broaden their horizons". I'm pretty happy for them.

My friends son turned 16 last week. He also asked for a turntable for his birthday.
His parents got the turntable and I gifted a B&K AVP3090 preamp, B&K EX-442 amp and some Terra Labs speaker wire and interconnects. His uncle completed the setup with a pair of Vandersteen 2 speakers.
It's amazing to see him so excited about this old gear and records!

Wow!~Very cool! Yeah I havent seen my son this excited about anything since I loaned him my 300CE Coupe a few years ago when he was in High School. Your friend's son SCORED big time! I got him a Denon DP300 turntable which is a very nice table for the $$$, and gave him the full run down on how to handle vinyl records, keep them clean and all of that stuff. They were both mesmerized when I first put on a record on. I kind of teared upa little. 8>)

He, his girl friend and a couple of his pals were gathered around it, and it was like when cavemen first discovered fire.
No PONO, that cuts into my beer budget too deeply! Besides after a couple pints who cares what the music sounds like?

Bruce, There is a nice record store in Mount Vernon called Lost In The Groove. Very cool people, great pricing, great selection and most of the vinyl is in great shape. [Link: relylocal.com]This lady has a nice vinyl collection in the back of her store http://reddoorantiquemall.com/Worth the drive, its in the old downtown area by the stack. Eat here while your there, its on the back side of the Red Door building. [Link: tripadvisor.com]And yes there are several pubs there (what a shock).
