Abus has preamp output on the back of the unit.

Run to an amp that is local to the keypad and drive the outdoor speakers off of that.

Your call on amp.

Look at Tio. Fits in place of old Abus but has all of the modern features, and actually works.

Craig,
Thanks for stepping in offering a solution.
As I am not an installer/integrator, I am trying to make sense of the solutions being offered, such as Sonos.
Is this in place of or in addition to SOnos.
Went to the web page. [Link: tiohome.com]
Impressive.
I have never seen the products, actually.
Can you tell me more specifically which product you are referring to?
Thanks for your patience.

The Tio system includes its own networked player, much like a Sonos connect amp would. All of the info you need is on the website.

So you prefer Trio to Sonos then?
And why is that?
Actually--I found an explanation of what the TiO can do here

I can't honestly recommend one over the other. Only that Tio fits in place of the Abus volume controls and can use the existing wiring so it seems that it's worth looking into. I've only had a demo of the system and it worked very well, sounded really good on a pair of ceiling speakers. You should do your own research and make an informed decision.
