In AT&T's commercial for home automation, they show a kitchen faucet that is turned off remotely. Is there a faucet that can be integrated? Or is this marketing BS? Maybe a main shutoff, which could ruin a water heater?

Have you seen the quality of the camera video in various security companies' commercials? That's b.s. too.

I'm Not an engineer, but I play one on TV. My handle is Tweety but I have nothing to do with the organization of similar name. I just had a really big head as a child so folks called me tweety bird. |

Maybe a main shutoff, which could ruin a water heater? We have worked with the plumber to install main shut offs in vacation homes with out damaging the water heaters. I am not a plumber, but if you shut off the main, there is no pressure so I would think the water heater would stay full. I also saw the commercial and wondered how they were controlling the faucet.

I've wired a few Taco valves back in the day. They are typically used for boiler zoning. They power open/close and have an end switch to prove they are closed. But as Impact stated, you would have to put A LOT of these in to make it work across the house which is not practical.
There are a few things we should never automate like faucets/sinks (Water main yes), and the oven.

I have no experience with this, but I would assume this could work to automate a sink: [Link: sternfaucets.com][Link: sternfaucets.com]However, just cause you can, doesn't mean you should.

AT&T is not going to do that. In fact, I would be surprised if they would even tie in a main cut off, because that would require a plumber.

I didn't say AT&T would use that. The title of the thread just asked if anyone knows of a faucet that could be automated. I believe that one could be.
As far as AT&T automating anything. I've worked alongside some of their techs on various jobs, and I can say with absolute confidence that I have absolutely no confidence in their ability to automate anything.

What about using a faucet with the motion sensor inside, like the ones used in restaurants that occasionally work when you wave your hands in front of? You could bypass the motion portion and wire the relay inside that controls the valve using some sort of contact closure that is controlled by whatever system you choose.

Ultraflo was one of our first advertisers way back when. Can't find now. We once did a story on how to use Ultraflo for a kegerator.

I don't really want to integrage a faucet. I was trying to figure out if AT&T is running some false advertisements.
