our fios TV contract is up...They are not doing much to keep us but DTV is bending over backwards to get us back with them... Current offer is $375 back on a visa card-$75per month after taxes for 6TV's..caveat is...its the genie system.

I havent bothered asking if they are willing to drop the genie and give us legacy box's instead..i HATE the genie system...its a POS, But from my understanding is since i last installed (basically) in june they have released a new system? HR44?

Is it still a POS?

Anyone have experience with the RVU system? decided to grab a 65" 6300 series samsung and it has RVU enabled...Normally im a dedicated BOX type of guy but the genie clients are so bad i cant imagine the RVU system in the sammy is worse then those?

Every Genie system I've worked on has been fine. They literally have the reliability and snappiness of the legacy units but with the multi-room capabilities. If the client has DirecTV now or is thinking about it, I always recommend the Genie system.

HR44 is better than the 34. Genie is ok as long as you are ok living within its limits. I would rather throw in 6 HR24 than a Genie and 5 clients fo shizzle. You could put in the Genie, and use 2 or 3 clients in areas that do not get much use. Then in the other 2 or 3 areas, put in an HR24.

I have not used RVU enabled TVs so I cannot comment. But your statement sounds spot on. You may as well try it. One less box to deal with.

I have yet to understand the complaints and limitations of the genie system. We tell EVERY customer to get it. its our go to. have NEVER had a problem with dozens of installs. I have a genie, not the lastest, and an hr24 and one client in my own home. NO ISSUES.

Whats the beef? I hear about client issues but I have not experienced it at ANY clients house. Ever. I haven't even looked into updating my genie because I see no need.

I have dealt with 3 genie systems.
The first one was an utter nightmare (HR34 and 3 clients). Constant "grey screen of death" issues that resulted in about the nastiest phone call I have ever gotten from a client. "Take this &%$# out of my house you mother$#(* and refund all my money or I will sue you". (Got taken care of but still).

Second one (also HR34) had initial video issues but was sorted and is behaving.

Third one (HR44 with 3 clients), no problems at all.

I have an HR44, 2 clients and 3 HDDVRs at my own house. Other then needing to get bandstop filters for 2 of the older DVRs, it was easy to set up and everything is working together well.
Can see all recorded shows at all locations, no reset problems to speak of and so far, the client boxes are behaving, even the one that lives on the back of the patio tv.

Gotta love clients that everything is your fault...

are the clients laggy as all get out on the HR44? on the hr34's those clients are so freaking laggy, i hate when i press a button and 1/2 a second latter it moves up/down or selects?

also, is there still that 3-4 second delay (black screen) while the channel switches? that is another thing that is very annoying to me

What I would do is get an HR34/44 and either HR24's or H25's for every other TV. This way there is no (audio/video) lag with the clients, and you still get the benefit of the HR34/44.

As a service to the rest of us, could you share what made it a nightmare? I mean, if it was just random stuff that went nuts all at the same time, I'd disrecommend the product. If it was random stuff that you didn't do right, then I'd know I have to carefully watch what I'm doing....
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

I love my hr44 genie and 3 clients. It is so much faster than the standard boxes.

Just a bad client experience with Directv that got projected onto us. Installation cancelled and rescheduled several times, it (and the internet installation) were contracted as a Uverse install, only to find out that Uverse wasn't available on that street so it was changed to Directv and AT&T DSL by at&t at the last minute (I had suggested cable as soon as I heard DSL but he wasn't listening to me).

We really did very little at the project. One surround zone, two additional stand alone displays in other rooms and a very basic network trim. We prewired the place (spec home), otherwise we probably wouldn't have touched the project (too small and bad gut feeling about the client). Guy bought his displays somewhere else, haggled relentlessly on price and was generally pretty difficult and demanding.

The homeowner had multiple events where the client boxes locked up, causing the "grey screen of death". Since the client boxes were behind mounted displays, it created a headache for the homeowner as resetting them was not easy.
From my reading after the fact, the early systems suffered from this issue, several firmware updates later and they were stable. But since we wired the house and we hung his tvs, anything and everything was our fault/responsibility, up to and including the change from Uverse to Directv, the scheduling issues, the modem that AT&T provided that was DOA, the long hold times for AT&T phone support, their being nothing good to watch on tv, that sorta stuff.

Genie system at my home has been 100% trouble free. In my case, all I had the Directv guys do is install/aim the dish, activate the boxes in a pile in my living room and call it a day (just moved, hadn't had a chance to wire the place). I have subsequently wired the house and deployed the whole system and I am 100% happy with it.

For what it is worth, I have not heard from the guy in about 6 months so either he has moved on, or the system is being stable.

How are they going to make 6 TVs work with a genie? It can only do 4 tvs at once. Are they going to install two H25s on the other two? Or use genie clients and you can't use all 5 clients at the same time?

Also, have you considered Dish? My personal preference has always been DTV. But I recently programmed a client's remotes because they switched to dish. And I have to say, Dish has some nice features now. Slingbox built in, live streaming to a tablet, you can download recorded content to a tablet, and can add an external hard drive. When my charter contract is up and I start shopping around, I will give dish a chance to beat the other prices

My system has 6 displays.
I have an HR44, 2 clients and 3 older HDDVRs (2 HR20s and and an HR21). All play well together, can see/watch recordings across all the boxes. The HR20s needed a bandstop filter but that is about it.
