I just bought a Surface Pro 2 over the weekend to use in my auto repair shop, I am running very picky software for diagnostics and so far so good, I was thinking that I found use my finger for a lot but due to the screen size I find that I must use the stylus. I haven't had a lot of work to use it for but I think that I will keep it.

Reviving a somewhat aged thread to see if any others are using the Surface Pro 2 with success in the field...? I've been offered one and need it to run Lutron RA2, RTI, Russound, URC and various other configuration and programming software.

Any experiences/warnings to share?

TIA

Can't really comment on the CI software...

The hardware differences between the Pro2 and Pro3 are pretty much screen resolution, and processors available.

Here's a nice table from an article: [Link: cnet.com]

From a software standpoint, they run Win8 (or 8.1), and anything that runs on a standard laptop should run. My experience is that the digitizer on the Surface Pro units is excellent! It works well with fingers, and nicely with a stylus. Anything that runs on a laptop, should work on the Surface Pro units, as long as the software doesn't have issues with Win8.

FWIW: Actually, if you want the original Surface they're going to be seriously cheap next week! Rumor is there are warehouses full of them!

True! They literally have tens of thousands of them collecting dust. My son and his GF have them and although they are not computer geeks, have been very happy with them.

I think the 3 looks great. I've been waiting on the i5 models with decent storage to finally be available at retail.

The only thing I'm not completely sold on is the keyboard, but it's not going to replace my laptop, just be a light weight tablet that I can use as a laptop when need. It's really going to be a OneNote machine!

Yes, but look at the SKU close, the max. resolutions vary depending on CPU so look the SKU you have in mind closely.
