I haven't had to use my 6' Radioshack USB to Serial adapter in a couple of years. Everything is IP or USB now. My lenovo failed a few months ago and i got a new laptop. Mac Book Pro using VM for Windows 7. Today when i tried to use my cable it won't install. I tried a few drivers from the web but no luck.

Does anyone have the driver for the beige 6' Radio Shack USB to Serial cable?

Or How about a model suggestion for one that you are using with a MBP and Windows 7.

Thanks.

Been using this for YEARS with MacBook Pro running vm ware fusion. Works everytime, even on those annoying ML600/MX850s.

+1 for Tripplite Keyspan USA-19HS

Has worked for me on MacBooks with OS X, Fusion, Parallels, Bootcamp, and on Windows XP and 7 machines. Plus it has “USA” in the model number.

Okay so delivery was late and i had to hit radioshack. I picked up their newest model Gigaware 26-3487. and it worked for Windows 7 (64 running on VMWare )after running the setup file on the disk.

I needed it to also work for the latest version of MAC OS. Google pointed me to someone who created a universal driver that works for many of the USB to serial cables on the market. [Link: changux.co] .

For those new to MAC OS like me...you can't just double click the .pkg file. You have to locate the file with finder, hold the control key and click the .pkg file then click open. A box popups up warning you...click Open again. Now you can double click the .pkg file and it automatically installs it for you. If your USB to serial cable is supported you will hear the "device connected" tone.

Keyspan USA-19.  Works with everything I've thrown at it, and that's impressive.

I double-click .pkg files all the time.

BTW - set up right-click on your touchpad...

If you ever try to open a .pkg from an "unknown developer" you wont be able to run it until you follow the instructions i posted above.

BTW - set up right-click on your touchpad...

I have right click setup. I have an external mouse with me most of the time wen im working. I never did this with my Lenovo but it makes life easier assuming you have some place for the mouse (no mouse pad on the top of a 4' ladder :) ).

The touchpad is great though. I have gotten pretty used to it. Very nice when just browsing the web or using my laptop for entertainment. One thing i cant get used to is VMWare. As soon as a have a free week i am putting bootcamp on this machine. Too many additional steps for everything.
