FYI: Interesting take on smart tv's and privacy.
At least on facebook you know they are harvesting your information for sale.
Smart devices are less transparent.

I like your title, but beware, the grammar police will assault you.
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

Grammar Police here.
Tom, you didn't capitalize Grammar Police.

The thread title is not ungrammatical. It's a play "on all your base are belong to us." According to Wikipedai, that

is an Engrish (broken English) phrase that became an Internet phenomenon or meme. The text comes from the opening cutscene of the 1991 European Sega Mega Drive version of the video game Zero Wing[1] by Toaplan, which was poorly translated from the original Japanese version.

As for the theme of this post, I think of Dennis Prager's Motto:

The larger the government, the smaller the citizen.

That's not exactly what's happening here, but I'll say

for Big Brother to exist, we have to let ourselves become little brothers.

This begs the question: how do you turn this stuff off when turning it off does not turn it off? It's time for a physical switch to disconnect the internet when you're not actually using the internet connection for yourself. At least then you'll know that you are choosing to open the internet window on yourself.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

How we turn it off? We don't connect TVs to the network, ever. Never have and we never will. That's my policy.

In this case, routers like the ones Chris keeps 'pushing' recommending, would easily allow to block, filter, re-route network traffic.
I could see blocking outgoing traffic to specific IP or URL while allowing other traffic to flow unimpeded.
There are ways to set schedules, limits, etc. as well.

The more I use the 750 router, the more I like it.

So that might be something savvy CIs can start promoting as well. :-)

As Mario said it is easy to block, but why not send them a Sh*t ton of nonsense data just for fun. A script can be written to mimic the TV and show the playing of Rick Astley "Never going to give you up" 24/7.
I may be schizophrenic, but at least I have each other.

Do they share an office with the Grammar and Spelling Police?
