TBH this is the reason i am so excited about the nest LV smoke coming out. it is in black. this is probably mentioned by my homeowners on every project. i could give two shits about nest or the app. i want a black smoke to tie into a burg panel. i CANT believe no one makes one!!!! I have been saying this for 10 years.

I hope they let the Nest smoke integrate to a security system better than they let their T-stat work with a control system

UM, why would someone want black things on their ceiling when nothing else is black? Unless they are putting it on dark ceilings but how often do you see those? I like white EVERYTHING. trim, plates, doors. classic. matches everything but to each his own.

Thats what I was thinking too. I hate almond and especially hate ivory. Looks like something that sat in a smokers house for 30 years.

I hope they freakin' work at all, unlike the stats.....

The do not paint notices are on the smokes to prevent some dumbass from spraying, brushing, or rolling paint right into every nook and cranny on the unit.

If you can disassemble the smoke so that the electronics and the plastics can be separated, then you can paint the plastics any color you want. Really no big deal.

How do you know the ceiling, and everything else on it, isn't black?

+2 .... and its definitely billable. How could you be expected to know in advance that a product that is traditionally always supplied in white be required as a 'custom' in black?

Thank you for your considered response

Did no one else catch this incredibly horrible pun!

That one should have a "rim-shot" sound effect.

I caught it. You didn't hear me groan?

Everything is rustic here. $300 - $1000 per sq ft. Antique reclaimed wood, barn board, antique timbers, etc. 90% of our ceilings are dark. Other than guest suites, some bathrooms, etc. We hardly ever see sheetrock. We have done 10,000 sq ft homes without 1 sheet of sheetrock. Rarely use white wall plates. Light almond, biscuit, 90% of the time. White reminds me of a $150,000 garden home!

You do know that is an addressable smoke detector that will only work with their system?
