Just happened to me. Card was declined everywhere. Call bank and bunch of transactions for travel agency bookings and hotels. Bank fraud protection kicked in and saved any transactions from posting. New cards on the way. At 33 this is the third time it's happened

You were lucky you got it back. Because debit cards don't have the same requirements on the bank's side for fraud protection. From what one explained to me, they don't have to refund money on a stolen debit card number

Your loss is limited to $50 if reported within 2 days of learning of the loss. $500 if reported more than 2 days after the loss. Some, if not most, banks go above and beyond this and will charge you nothing.
