I still use Outlook for all my mail.
I have few accounts, including one with GoDaddy and my business with GMail (paid account). I can't stand the few times that I have to open the web interface to check email.

How much do you pay for your gmail service?

"You get what you pay for." Isn't that what we tell people on here all the time?
"You can't fix stupid."

Not sure what the number is since they are being paid for serving up ads based on my personal content. Their entire business model is based on attaching ads to everyone else's content.

I have been super busy over the last few months with little time to pay attention to gmail. At some point i noticed that if i wanted to reply to someone the reply box was empty so i couldn't quote their email.

Wait. Open an email. Click the reply button. Reply box opens up and is empty. There is a button with three dots "..." right above the Send button. Click it.

I found that last night. An additional click is somehow simplifying my life. Thanks google.

Not only does an additional click not simplify my life, how the HELL would I instantly know when they change the layout that those three little dots mean something, or what they mean? Every time I notice a layout change I have to click on EVERYTHING?

Webmasters do dumb stuff like this all the time. My bank interface was recently updated and now when I open it the cursor is no longer automatically in the place where the majority of people will start: the user name. Instead you have to mouse to the username and click. This is the same bank whose phone system was "updated" a while back so that early in the process you'd choose between resetting your PIN number and ALL other transactions. That only makes sense if about 50% of all phone calls are about changing PIN numbers!
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

In my opinion.... Gmail is worth what you are paying for it.

Real work demands a client that integrates Email, Calendar, Contacts, and Tasks. Outlook is #1 with corporations for a reason.

Except the corporations that use Lotus Notes...

Somebody still uses Lotus Notes?

Perhaps that explains why they are still selling exactly the same clothing they did in 1980!

More nonsense. Today i notice that things have gotten "simpler" again. Before today i could see a "gmail" text link on the right side. Now you have to click an icon (that has no label on it mind you) so that you can then click the gmail icon.

This is what i meant by interior designers have infiltrated software development. Make it more difficult to use for the sake of the "clean flat" [email protected]#it design trend.

Those bars above are found after logging into google. If you just go to google.com you can still see the "old" bar.

I put "old" in quotes because a couple of days ago i saw an even older bar somewhere in google land with text links on the left to multiple google services/apps.

A while back I found myself in an argument with a web designer that was redesigning a community forum site using unique icons with no labels. He defended his design with some article he quoted about how icons are becoming more popular and what people recognize. This was based on some weird survey over things like how people recognize the shape of a stop sign and other well established items. I tried to explain that's because everyone knows what a stop sign is. But everyone doesn't know what a custom icon is, and the older someone is over 35 the more confused they become by new things online.

Apparently there is some really bad information out there about GUI design in the web community. And google is probably behind it

iOS before the redesign was really good at balancing form and function. Now it sucks. One of the worst problems with the new iOS is that they have done away with buttons in a lot of apps. You have to guess whether or not text is a link or just text. When they used buttons there was no confusion.

It's not google. It's the "designers" all trying to prove they have value. We have retina displays and the new UI will work on an 8bit display. What the hell is going on?
