I have been super busy over the last few months with little time to pay attention to gmail. At some point i noticed that if i wanted to reply to someone the reply box was empty so i couldn't quote their email. If i wanted to i had to open it in this weird @ss messenger box that i could expand to about 50% of the screen. After googling "what the F#$% happened to gmail" i found a few threads but no solution.
Does anyone know how to roll back firefox or IE based gmail (gmail.com not a desktop app or chrome plugin bs)?
What the hell is going on with these companies? First Microsofts Windows 8 fiasco, then pointless updates to iOS and Evernote and now gmail. Jesus please stop trying to fix S#!T that isn't broken.

This bothers the Sh1t out of me too. I can't stand websites that constantly update their look, or after years of a proven formula that works, they all of a sudden change it. I don't like change. I want what I'm comfortable with. As for gmail, I noticed its different but I RARELY use the website. I just use my personal email through gmail, which I use from my phone or ipad email app.

I just remembered something. This happened months ago but i was able to "switch back to old compose". That option is now gone. I guess i get to spend a day deciding what mail client to forward all of my domains and my gmail account too.
So the company that makes money by having people see ads is now making it so fewer people see ads. Makes perfect sense.

Update. I just read that the second week of August this year is when the option to switch back vanished. Thats why i haven't dealt with this until now. I wonder how long it takes to download 13,000 emails.

Also when you hit the reply arrow the box pops up then in bottom right is another arrow to click and lets you choose to include original attachments

So to send an email i have to open a chat box and expand it. Much easier than it just opening...:/
And for reply i have to hit reply...a blank box appears... then a drop down box for "edit subject" then a new box pops up where i can read quote the original email as i respond.
Perfect platform for the people who half respond to emails or the ones who email you with "give me a call".

David just pointed out this little button at the bottom of the reply that used to expand to show just my signature. Now it shows the email i am replying to. So another "feature" that took 1 click and made it 2. Awesome. Maybe we should get rid of clicks and have big rectangles allover the window. Wait thats Windows 8. Nevermind.

I was thinking of changing to gmail; I've got an account and probably get two or three emails per week. I'd noticed it had changed but thankfully it didn't kill me. Sorry for you guys! Won't it be ironical if the AOL that I never got rid of ends up being the best thing out there because it's always been about 50% of what an email system should be... but dammit IT STILL IS JUST THE SAME! Ditto the frustration with updates that change the way things work. If there's an error or a malfunction, fix it, but don't make us have to learn a whole new damn program. If I have to learn a new program, why would I want to stick with the one that's making me learn it? While we're at it:

Ya gmail changes things to much, my favourite was or maybe still is yahoo but there new update with the never ending page of emails really pisses me off. I want my pages back! with like 25 emails or whatever it was on each page. Personal I have a hotmail account it's not bad, the company has it's own email addresses with [email protected] along with info, sales stuff like that. For all my dealings with suppliers and contractors and one paypal account I use yahoo, I don't even know why the company also has a gmail account, I guess I got it when creating a you tube and at that time a google buzz account, oh and I have email money transfers set up on it but ya the new little box thingy is weird. I still love my google drive though :)

I know more people use a third party cloud based email service than something like outlook if not outlook but that to me is just not a good idea...if it is "free" you have to ask yourself, what am I giving up for that free service...that would be control...sooooo...my .02 is user beware.
I use outlook because it works for me and I can keep everything local and secure, and in an age of home servers costing as liitle as a few hundred dollars, if you have the skill, why not inhouse everything and "partner" up with a family member or trusted friend and each have a server and do redundent backups for each other... pushing off data to someone you do not know is bizarre to me to a degree.
