Did an installation 4 months ago, DTV Genie Client,Blueray,PioneerAVR (customer supplied) and samsung TV

Client says when he goes to change a channel he loses sound. In the beginning it wasn't very often now it is every other time he changes a channel. Im going to be in the area today and am going to swing by and see what is going on. Haven't tried any of the usual stuff yet.

System is hooked up the usual way with HDMI from device into AVR. Equipment is located in remote rack so he cant tell me if anything changes on the AVR screen

Anythoughts? anyone run across this before?

check the audio settings on the DTV box

HR34 Genie? We have a client with that one and 3 C31 clients. Once in a while, no audio UNTIL they change channels. Probably a related issue. Likely a software glitch. We just tell him to reset it (HR34 and clients) when it acts funny. Seems to work. I do not know what else I can do about it. I chalk it up to DirecTV's flaky hardware/software.

BTW all the units in this project are set to output PCM only since the 80" Sharp he bought elsewhere will not accept Dolby Digital and we are using a matrix. :P

We have run into this a lot more lately. Our techs have spent hours supporting this. I know we are in the process of doing a write up. Shoot me an email and I can send you our knowledge base working with Direct TV (they suck).

One of the older Directv DVRs at my house does this on occasion.
Either loses audio mid program, after skip button is pressed or on channel change.

Changing channels again makes audio come back. I would say it is the Directv box that is the problem. Neither of my other two exhibit this behavior.

ETA: Why is it that NONE of the service providers can get their crap together. I have months out of my working life and tens of thousands of dollars of lost labor hours sucked up by dealing with their crap.
At least Directv has discretes.

I don't know if this would help or not, but I have made "improvements" to DTV based systems by unchecking 480p and 720p in setup menus to eliminate most handshake/sync issues when changing channels.
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

is the receiver only wired with an HDMI cable?  what if you back it up with analog audio cables?
