FYI....You can do this with any Integra receiver with just a few settings. Unless the current models changed... no setting required. Pick the video input, then switch to an audio only input and the video feed remains.

The Integra always did this fine as Tom mentioned above. We are working now with a client who wants something similar. We are using an HK AVR and it has some slick input setup options that let you create a "source" using an HDMI input for video and an analog or digital input for audio. Too bad it will not allow me to mix a certain HDMI input for video with a different HDMI input for audio....but still it is a slick feature that most will never use, and the manufacturer could have just said screw it, no one needs that. But they put it in there anyway. Nice, huh?

OK guys!
I just finished the install of the Gefen piece. It totally works awesome. This means it will work for any HDMI source in, add digital audio, and the output is converted back to HDMI.
You do need a male DVI to female HDMI adaptor. This did not come with the Gefen.
So if you are using as HDMI switch, this is the way to do it without a lot of hassle!

Please excuse me if I am missing something here, but we have been able to implement this feature on almost every A/V receiver made since I got into the industry in 1998. We typically set the Sonos input to use the video from the Satellite/Cable box and program the TV to default to off. This way, if they desire to view Television or ATV content, they simply push the TV On button on the Sonos Page of the handheld remote. We also put a button for page flip to the controls of the video source to make it easy on the client.
1. Choose and desired Sonos input, i.e. CD or AUX 2. In AVR setup of Sonos input, assign HDMI to the one the AppleTV is connected to, assign Sonos input (analog, Coax, Toslink) for audio in. 3. Add buttons on remote for TV power and jump to AppleTV controls

Yep, you are missing something.......its a Marantz receiver.....called tech support and being able to do that is only for analog sources....NO HDMI......
feel free to call them yourselves.....I have been pulling my hair out over this because the SR6006 in the family room of this project works fine and easy like you guys are describing, the SR5006 in the game room does not.
When I called Marantz tech support, the chick I spoke to said that it is for analog sources only, no HDMI. I asked her why the SR6006 works and she replied "well, it is not suppose to"..................really.................I ask her if she wanted me to take a video of it....this seem to piss her off even more............no help there!
Not sure, but the Gefen piece works great and I was able to eliminate a bunch of switching and cabling............Just ran the HDMI out of the APTV into the Gefen, inserted the coaxial digital from the Sonos, plugged the output of the Gefen into my Zektor switch and we were Golden!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hmmm. I came here with the same question - same concept but using different sources.. Would have HDMI for cable w\Denon AVR, and want to leave the Cable playing, BUT when they switch to there ipod source still have the cable playing
Anyone try this with a denon AVR ? Thinking it prob. wont since its not working with Marantz.

Page 109 of the owners manual shows how to adjust input assignments and that this should work. Use coax digital instaed of analog and it should work.

You guys can argue all you want, it does not work on the SR5006. Granted, I think it should work and should be a feature on all Surround receivers.
Weird thing is that Marantz says the SR6006 should not work, but it does.........

I have done similar by taking analogue line out of zone 2 into analogue in of your video source. Then you have control over what audio source you want to listen to by selecting the zone 2 input then choosing analogue or digital audio select for that video source.
Worked fine with Integra and Yamaha models that I tried.
